The tv may have had a break down in the power supply, or may have "bad" solder connections on the main circuit board. GE tv's were famous for this. If you know someone who can solder electronics and knows how to look for bad solder joints, this may be the fix to your problem. If you have to take it in to get it repaired, it may not be worth it, as the prices of TV's now are very very cheap.

This is an older TV and has worked flawlessly for several years.
It shut itself off while I was sleeping and will not power up/turn on.
I have checked the power outlet and the made sure the power cord is
plugged in ok.
