Question about ATI RADEON 8500 Graphic Card

1 Answer

Upgrading of Graphics Card

Hi there,
I am currently running a Radeon 7500 card in my PC.
It has worked well with Flight Simulator X. I recently purchased the Expansion Pack and after installing it I get an error message that says
the graphics card must be upgraded to at least an 8500.

Before I just go out and buy it I would like to know if my current PC will be able to accommodate the new card.

Your sound advice and assistance will be sincerely appreciated.

PS see pic of my PC's system specs.

Kind regards - Rob Witchell

Re: Upgrading of Graphics Card

Sorry but cant see the picture u have posted as its so small.

Whatever the spec is there shouldnt be a problem upgrading to a 8500 or even higher card.
There are cards higher up in the range that are now relatively cheap and will far exceed the perfromance of the 8500 agp card.

A good and cheap upgrade would be something like a 9800xt

here are a couple of sites showing performance of cards

The main problem with a higher spec card will be wether your psu is capable of powering it. If you open the pc case up the psu should have details on the side of it. Please list what they are along with the make.

RADEON 7500 AGP Graphic Card: just reformatted my old dell optiplex gx260 and i ...

You can try reinstalling the firmware for the video card, but if that doesn't work your video card is probably dead and you'll need a new video card. The firmware is what controls the video card, so if the computer shut off while the firmware was in the process of being rewritten, there's a good chance some of the code needed to run the card got erased or scrambled.

I have had that very same problem before. Unfortunatly it is all bad news. The card is going bad. You will have to replace the card. I wish there was something else I could tell you, but I know with 100% certanty that the card isnt any good. And the reason your other graphics card may not work is due to you not either uninstalling the 7500 drivers before you swapped, or some of the software affiliated with the 7500 were not completly removed during the uninstall process. Try this program to completly remove all dirver files for the 7500.

Hi I need a Radeon 8500 graphic card for my gateway laptop to run flight simulator X. Where should I get it.

Usually, video cards for laptops are built in to your motherboard. So it means to say that when you want to upgrade your laptop's video card you need to replace your laptop's motherboard as a whole. This process is expensive I should say.

Please i am having Gateway Laptop 600 ygr with graphic card ATI Radeon 7500. I want to improve its 3d performance by running grahics more than 64MB or improving with acceleratedx. Thanks frank

Unfortunately with this model laptop the graphics card is not upgradeable. If you are attempting to do 3D graphics you will want a higher end laptop with a higher end processor and video card. For high end laptops that will perform much better for this use I would check out for their line of higher end laptops.

ATI x800xt Graphics Card freezes when playing 3D Games like flight simulator

Usually that happen once the resolution of your monitor cannot meet the desire need, it depends the kind of monitor that you have even if you change different kind of video card, its still happend.
Try to change the resolution to lower one.
Here's the step
1. right click on the desktop ( a place where there is not icon on your screen)
2. choose properties
3. then settings
4. adjust the screen resolution to lower settings some on the color setting
5. then ok.

Installing a Dell RADEON 7500 AGP video card into a Compaq Evo SFF

Did you remove the previous video cards drivers from the control panel? The Catalyst Control Center requires Microsoft’s .NET Framework version 2.0. To remove what might have installed or your old ATI software run this uninstaller for Radeon. Download here:
Try your install again.
