The "Acer ePM" (Power Management) program is probably outting your WIFI into hibernation, Make sure it shows the WIFI as on under "Start" "All Programs"

Most Acers use a form of Intel chipped IPN2220 Wireless card. If yours does, you use XP and your router is using WPA or WPA2 (TKIP or AES) security then you'll need to update the driver by searching for it manually using the Custom button (Hardware) in Windows update (instead of Express). This driver is not part of XP service pack 2 or 3. In my experience if you don't update to the newest common form of home wireless security (WPA2 AES) then the older formats seem to become unreliable in the way you describe

I have an acer aspire 5920G laptop. My wireless network adapter stopped working, and a message showing No DeviceI, tried to fix the problem but to no avail. My wireless broadband was working good before...

1st check to make sure that the wireless adapter shows up in the decice manager. then check your network adapters to verify the system still sees the wireless network adapter.

Then

The acer manual talks about the ways to turn it off in the acer software as well as by the button http://www.nodevice.com/user_manual/download_324027.html page 32 talks about windows mobility centre and has a function to turn off wireless
page 44shows buttons down the left hand side - one has a symbol like a satellite dish - this enables/disables the wireless adapter If none of these work then likeley the wireless adapter in the laptop has died and if you want an internal wireless you will have to have it replaced or go to a external usb type of adapter.

How do I turn off WIFI on Acer 5720 and use ethernet cord

If there isnt a button on the laptop to switch it on and off, then the easiest way to turn it off is to disable the wireless network adapter.
To do this, open Control Panel and double click Network Connections.
This will then show your wireless and ethernet adapters as icons.
Right click on the wireless adapter and then select "disable".
Your wireless adapter should now show as disabled.
If in the future you want to turn it back on, do the same again but select "enable".

Wireless switch

Although the wireless switch on your Acer does turn on/off your wireless card, you will also need to make sure that your operating system (Windows) has the wireless card enabled.

Do the following:
  1. Go to Control Panel (Start -> Control Panel)
  2. Double-click Network Connections
  3. Right-click on Wireless Network Connection / WLAN (you can tell it is disabled if the icon is greyed)
    3dce7ab.jpg
  4. Click on "Enable" (if you see Disable, your network is already enabled)
You should check the bottom-right-hand area of your screen (in the menu bar) for your wireless icon. If this is not appearing, you'll have to go into Network Connections again and do the following:
  1. Right-click on Wireless Network Connection (your wireless network adapter)
  2. Select Properties
  3. Click the checkbox that says "Show icon in notification area when connected"
    685e49b.jpg
  4. Now click on the Wireless Networks tab (at the top of this dialogue box)
  5. Scan for a network and connect to it.

Wireless does not show up in Network Connections

Did you try - after switching on the "antenna switch" or WiFi hardware - to "Enable" the WiFi adapter, under (XP) Start - Settings - Network Connections - LAN or High-Speed Internet - Wireless Network Connection? (select, right click and select Enable)?

p.s. Once your WiFi hardware is recognized (by Win XP) there is (should be) always a "Wireless Network Connection" in your Network Connections, enabled or disabled, active or not.
