Bios not recognizing dvd burner

Computer does not recognize dvd burner

Posted by on

  • Anonymous Apr 26, 2008

I have two Dell's and the DVD drive stopped working on both of them. I'm going with HP next time.

  • Anonymous Jan 16, 2009

It recognized the DVD-RW fine before, but suddenly does not. Now it shows up as only a CD-ROM drive and so the DVD burning commands do not appear in applications. Downloaded a burn test from the Sony site and it tested successfully but did not fix the problem.

The DVD Burner could be bad, does it show up under my computer? you can check to see if it's cord is in all the way, it could be in upside down on the mother board or in the wrong place, there is the a drive slot next to it. take them out and make shure you dont have a pin bented on it.

I have put 5 different dvd burners in my toshiba. it will not recognize any

After having no success with the THIRD burner, you should have deduced that its the computer, not the DVD device, that is causing the problem.

Try entering BIOS SETUP, to see if the BIOS recognizes the DVD device.
Check that it is "enabled", not "disabled".

Sony drx820 suddenly not recognized by computer

Does the tray open for you? Re-boot the computer and go into the BIOS and see if it is listed by the BIOS. Did you accidentally remove the hardware? Go into the control panel and add new hardware and see if it detects the drive and re-installs it. Otherwise the drive might have stopped working.

Not recognized

Go into your BIOS and see if you can get it to autodetect the drive. You should be able to this but I can't tell you how to because all BIOS setups are different.

Then save your BIOS and reboot.

The drive should then be recognised as the right thing.

Hope this helps

Dvd/cd burner i need the driver

shouldn't need a driver for this unit if your computer isn't too old and you're using win xp or 2000. Install and check bios and it should recognize it. Usually to use these devices to burn you need something like nero or other disk burning utility that's bundled with the unit or can be purchased for around $30 or so. If it doesn't work and bios doesn't recognize it check the jumper on the rear and its position on the ribbon cable. Usually if it's set to cable select it should work but if bios doesn't recognize it on any setting it may be bad. Try it on somebody else's computer that has xp and burning software if possible
