To be honest, it depends on what the problem really is.. If it is a problem with the video chip and it can be disabled. Then probably. If not, it will not resolve anything.
But note, my experience with Gateway is that they usually just put a power supply big enough to power the computer as-is. If you add a modern video card, it may overload the power supply.
