Just bought (got for Christmas) an RCA RTD258 Home Theater Sound System. The discs won't open. At all. I have read the manual, don't know what is going on. Can anyone help??!??!??
I have exactly the same problem right now. The On/Standby button is lit red. When pressing it or the power button on remote, the disc tray makes noise and then the unit just shuts down. I have to unplug the unit and replug for the light to come red again.
There is no small hole to insert any paper clip below the disc trays.
What is going on????

I have contacted Venturer Electronics Inc. (which have recently purchased RCA); they are in Toronto, Ontario. They suggested to perform a Manufacturer Reset (as follows); and if it works; system should power up [this means there was a glitch in the software]...(this usually happens when system is plugged into a power bar or surge protector) if not, contact them @ 1-800-721-4007. They honor the manufacturer's (RCA) 1 year warranty... with receipt.
To reset Unit:
Unplug Unit from AC power (other wires can stay connected)
Press the On/Standby button in front of Unit 15 times
Wait 30 minutes
Replug Unit to AC power
Press the On/Standby button to power up unit
Wait couple of minutes for unit to do its thing
**If unit works properly, then ensure not to plug unit into power bar or surge protector, keep plugged into wall.
**If unit will not power up properly, contact them for further instructions.
Hope this is helpful....
My Unit powered up wonderfully and is currenlty working like a charm.
Good luck!

There should be a small button below the disc tray. Use a paper clip or something to press the button which will manually eject the tray. make sure there is nothing inside jamming the tray.

i bet t is the belt for the tray motor, mine hs the same issue, i took it apart ad found the broken belt, jut have to find the replacement
if you remove the steel cover from the top of the unit you will see the disc, there is a bracket above it which can be removed with two screws and take the dvd out easily
A disc that is very dirty, scratched or cracked will not be read properly. Also, a disc that has anything stuck to the label side such as a sticker, will cause it to spin improperly and will not be read properly.
hello
the problem could either be the rubber attached to the motor of the mechanism or the mechanism itself.
if it is the rubber replace for a new one of the same size.
if it is the mechanism, check the wheels and adjust the tray if neccessary.... GOODLUCK
hello
Setting the disc ejection lock
You can lock the disc tray to prevent the disc form
being ejected.
When the main unit is turned off, hold down the STOP
key at the front panel for 5 seconds
If you attempt to open the disc tray by pressing
OPEN/CLOSE key, the disc tray does not open and
“LOCKED” appears in the display window.
To cancel the disc ejection lock, hold down the STOP
key at the front panel for 5 seconds again when the
main unit is turned off.
“UNLOCKED” is displayed in the display window.
Note:
Before the main unit is turned off, DVD/CD function
should be selected.
you should never use a disc thats scratched inside yiour machine its most likely your dvd machine is having trouble reading your media the best way to solve this is to unplug your machine wait turn it back on keep pressing eject
it should eject dont use that dvd disc again
hope this solves your problem
did for me
