Trouble starting compaq presario F551AU

My computer was working fine but today when i turn it on it comes up needing to use start repair, it tries to fix it but than comes uo windows cannot repair the computer automatically. the reason it gives is that something is attatched to the computer that needs to be removed before re booting to fix the problem, but nothing is attatched.the only thing i can think of that may have triggered a problem is turning the computer off without shutting it down first last night. how can i get it to start up again?

Hey I apoligise for the late reply,

Ok, first off when you turn off the computer without shutting down, windws does not get enough time to wirte necessary data to the disc, this does not always cause aproblem because sometimes there are unpredictable events such as power failure..

You might need to format your hardrive to fix this problem
To do this boot with the windows cd, it will say press any key to boot from disc. (YOU MIGHT NEED TO SET YOUR BOOT DEVICE IN THE BIOS(SETUP))

anyway fisrt off try a fresh install, leaving your current file system intact. Id that works then you will still have all your data on your disc, If not then you need to do a complete format.. Good Luck

I have compaq presario 5000 and I'm having problem

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they might be faulty make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electical extensions

even something as small as an electrical fan and its lead can cause this problem or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs all electrical power and data to continue through every working device and to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

make sure your graphics card is securely seated with no dust built up or in the socket

if you remove your graphics check the socket to make sure its dust free

restart your computer then reinstall it this should activate found new hardware wizard

hope this helps you

Free Agent 1.5TB external inaccessable

well to start sometimes when a computer crashes or
freezes the HDD image that is stored on the unit will
be wiped clean since it uses the RAM to store that image , so it may need to have its software reinstalled
also check to see if the HDD is at its limit of storage
run a check using Belarc Advisory which you can download from Google make sure to say yes for the Belarc updates , you will be amazed on how much info the Belarc utility will uncover , and remember to list your OS your OS bit amount for future help .

Compaq has a website with downloadable drivers for all their computers. Download the drivers, burn to CD and install. Trick is, one model could have different components inside, so they list several different drivers, and not all drivers work with all computers. So unless you know what components are inside your computer, you need all the drivers and just try them until you get the right one.

Western Digital Elements HD doing a clicking noise and no access

It might be the power adapter. I had one of these and two Maxtor external drives that just clicked that way and it turned out their adapters were bad. You can check with another adapter if you can borrow one from another drive, or use a replacement from Radio Shack. Make sure you get the same voltage and current rating marked on the original.

If the adapter isn't at fault, the small circuit board in the enclosure may be the trouble. You can remove the drive from the case and connect it to directly to a computer power supply to see if spins up properly.

If the drive still doesn't spin, it's bad. This is a common way for a drive to fail. Unfortunately, this leaves you with a drive that you can't read. Hopefully you've backed your important data up on CD or DVD.

Having trouble using it as a solo harddrive in newer computer

When Windows (XP?) was installed in the Quantum Fireball LCT1520 of the old Compaq Presario, the OS was married to the hardware specifically the motherboard/chipset. When it was removed and transplanted to the newer PC, the OS would be looking for the old hardware settings/configuration and since the new PC has a different motherboard and therefore cannot find the old hardware, it would loop/reboot continuously and/or BSODs.

One method of getting the old HD to work in the new PC is to do a clean/new install of the OS.

If for some reason you prefer to use the old OS in the old HD with its settings/configuration, you can try to do a repair/re-install. The procedure is similar to installing a clean/new OS except that you should opt for the 2nd repair choice (not the R or first repair option). This should retain most if not all of your old applications/settings while installing new Windows files.

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
