Print head for canon ip90

Is it possible to get a new printhead for a canon ip90 printer? The black inkjets seem to be clogged and I do not know what to do. Can you help me?

IP-90 Black will not print despite several new cartridges, deep cleaning, cleaning.  The color prints ok.  Could the print head be clogged?  can it be unclogged?

  • Anonymous Feb 10, 2008

I have tried cleaning the print head on my IP90 according to the instruction; i.e. cleaning, deap cleaning, etc. several times but the black print head does not print clean. Is there any chemicals that will clean the head without harming the equipment? Is there a place where they will repair these problems? Any help will be appreciated.

Black doesn't work, color works fine. Probably need to replace the print head.

Yep. I bought my portable ip 90 to bring with me for 5 months in Brazil and now 6 months in Ghana, West Africa. The black ink cartridges just stopped working for no discernible reason (and the machine is only 8 months old, but we're far away from any help available from our U.S. servicers. I can't walk to Accra and just pick up a new print head (I can't even find replacement cartridges for this model). I'm using up all my color cartridges printing black from the composite setting. I'd appreciate a do-it-yourself solution.--Fran

Printer has not been used for a while. Replaced all cartridges to be sure of full load. Black works, all colors clogged. Canon website not helpful at all!

Looking for information on manually fixing a clogged inkjet problem. The maxpatchink site seems to be permanently down.

The previously posted solution referenced a web site that now appears to be permanently down. Does anyone have a new reference for this solution?

There is a very easy fix for a Canon IP90 not printing either color or black. I just fixed mine a few minutes ago. Go to the local Dollar store and buy some nail polish remover. Then open up the printer, remove the ink cartridge(s) and put a few drops of nail polish remover in the hole that receives the ink. Works like a charm and fixed mine in just minutes. After inserting the polish remover (actually just Acetone with some glycerin) reinsert the ink cartridge and do a deep clean using the Canon utility from the Control Panel under "Printers > Properties > Maintenance (right click on the Printer icon in Control Panel to start)." You can also simply use acetone. Another trick is to remove the print head which holds the ink cartridges (although I could not figure out how to do this but it's doable) then put a paper towel soaked with distilled water (tap water probably OK) in the microwave, heat the towel and quickly put the print head on the hot paper towel. As a last resort simply order a new print head from the Internet and replace the print head. I would presume it would come with instructions for removing the old print head.

This links to a manual that shows how to install the printer head. do the reverse, then clean the bottom of the print head with cotton swabs dipped in rubbing alcohol. Mine was very dirty, with crusted up ink. It prints like new now!! Good luck.

The printhead is QY6-0052-000, and the Canon reps weren't faking it. There is ,however, a firmware update that we Canon reps have to update firmware to 1.02 which helps black cleaning by positioning the printhead better. You need a shop to install the new firmware.

Im looking for a new Cyan print head too, cuz the current one flat-out died today after hardly any use. Cleaning does no good either, and I dont think it's clogged. It just up and died, 100% one day and 0% the next.
Funny, the reviews on Amazon were good, but now they're consistently bad. I guess the early reviews were all Canon reps faking it, and now the truth comes out. Thanks Canon.

You can clean the print heads manually before buying another one, follow these instructions: http://www.maxpatchink.com/canon-tips.shtml

Main black print(BCI-3eBK)seems clogged and nozzle check shows only partial pattern. The cartridge seemed to be stuck to the print head. This happened before about two months ago. My technician cleaned it....

Sounds like you need a new printhead, and the only thing you need for cleaning is a damp cloth. All the Canon inks are water soluable. The printheads don't clean very well and don't last long if you do clean them.

IP90 won't print black. Replaced ink, deep cleaned heads, etc. Will print color, but not black.

You probably need a new printhead, but there is also a new update for that machine to help clean the black part of the printhead. QY6-0052-000 is the printhead #

Ip90 printer does not print blac on a test after

Sounds like the printhead is plugged on the black side. A new printhead is #qy6-0052-000 around $40.00. That model also needs a firmware update to help it clean the printhead better.

Canon iP90 only prints blank pages

there are two possible problems for that, either there is a problem on the pump assy or the printhead is clogged. if you have a spare printhead, try replacing it first along with a new ink otherwise have an authorized service center to look at it coz maybe it has a problem on the cleaning mechanism

Canon iP90 stopped printing in BLACK

hi... it might be that you need some time to let the ink absorb into the pads in the print heads ... this can take between a few hours and a day... Must be frustrating to deep clean three times and just seem that you are wasting ink cartridges, my "solution" would be to give it time or possibly clean the print heads manually.. hope it will solve it out..

thank u!!

IP90 WONT PRINT BLACK

I had this problem recently with my IP90. Both the black and color heads were clogged. After running the "canned" routines several times to clean the heads and deep clean the heads...still didn't help...here's what I did:

1. open the top lid to have the cartridges that are inserted in the print head move to the middle of the printer.
2. remove both cartridges
3. What is left there is the print head holder. Slightly move it to the right and gently lift the print head lock.
4. Grasp the print head and lift it out of the tank.
5. Have several paper towels hand and know that you will have color and bw ink on your fingers
6. Put the print head on the paper towel
7. Pour rubbing alcohol on the blk and color heads and let them sit of about 10-15 minutes.
8. after that dry the heads and re-insert them in the printer
9. I put new cartridges in the printer and ran clean and deep clean a few times.
10. My color and black and white print came right back!

Hope this helps.

Print Head

After opening the purple cover, the printer head will move to the center. There should be a gray tab on the left side of the forward facing opening (about the middle of lower cartridge). Gently push printer head to the right (1/4 to 1/2 inch) and a gray slanted tab will appear from behind housing. lift this tab and a metal lock will pop up. Tilt lock back and the printer head should be lying loose in its cradle.
