Question about Samsung SyncMaster 793MB 17" CRT Monitor

Open Question

Brown lines My monitor suffers from intermitant brown lines creeping from the right to the left some times obscuring the whole screen. My research says this is common across many of the SyncMasters the 793's inparticular. I have not found step by step instructions on how to fix it myself. Temporary solutions range from slaping the thing to turning the brightness  up to max.

The screen will suddenly begin flashing on and off for long periods of times.

the inverter board has an issue, take the monitor apart and see if there a Capacitor that is bulged or leaking a brown goo from it, if there is a blown capacitor then replace them with same type and heat rating. after than put the monitor back together.

hope this solves the problem.

PS the inverter board is the Board with the big transformer on it its normally the yellow/brown colored board.

Screen is fading left to right. text starts black and turns to brown

Might be that your monitor is starting to go bad. Try another known good working monitor on the computer. If it works properly then you know its a problem with your original monitor. If the 2nd monitor doesn't work properly then its a problem with your video card.

If your original monitor is the culprit then it could be bad caps on the main board but regardless you could possibly take it back to Best Buy and get it replaced since it should at least still be under the manufacturers warranty.

Brown horizontal lines sporadically appearing on monitor

I had the same problem. I fixed it completely today. The horizontal lines disappeared. IT IS DEFINETLY THE DEVICE DRIVER. I confirmed my monitor model tyope (dell M783s) and downloaded the specific driver for this monitor.

I had to do these exact steps or did not work.
1) with the problem screen, disabled the display adapter under the Hardware/Device Manager settings.
2) Restart the PC
3) Boot will come up with brown lines still but the screen will low resolution of 600x800.
4) Then I installed the correct device display monitor driver onto the pc. ( you may need to scan for new hardware, then choose the directory with the new hard drive.)

If you need step by step... just reply back.

Screen not smooth in the sides and corners

hi there, i've done a bit of research about your monitor apparently this model is not very reliable and has all sorts of common problems including yours here's what some people said about it: Bad Points Extremely unreliable. Over a 2 year period I have had to replace 6 out of 20 monitors Main problem, the image degrades to the point where any text in the centre of the screen is difficult to read. this monitor has a blurry corner right bottom corner and a bit of a whole right section.. and its out of focus constrast is like not on full and correct and identical to the left side.. left side is crisp and perfect.. also it takes bit of time to correct the display in the screen position and pincusion, the convergence isnt impressive at all.. anyways this is what you get from cheap monitors and BTW this is made in Indonesia, i am not flaming on the country, i am just saying this monitor isnt tested or not in quality as samsung flat monitors or sony. i am disappointed on LG for the first time, well if you really consider buying this monitor, you must check the monitor screen or something if it is correct. so you dont have to cry after you came all the way back home with it.. looks like a lot of people are not happy with this monitor. just replace it they are not expensive nowadays regards

Lcd monitor goes white

The E151FPb's seem to have a problem of this sort. After doing some research online I've found that the most common problem is a few dry solder joints on the large circuit board inside the monitor. There was also some talk of a connector suffering from heat creep that sound be connected better on the inside, but usually that would make the screen turn black if it were to become disconnected. The monitor can be opened by unscrewing all the screws on the back, there should be 6 screws you need to pull out before being able to open the case. After those, insert a thin, but strong piece of metal into the side and sort of twist/slide it along the side and it should pop open some clips and just work your way around the perimeter. After that it's just some simple and obvious screws to get to the circuit boards.

Brown horizontal lines sporadically appearing on monitor

I have exactly the same problem with the identical monitor, but I have not found any solution. It seems to be the monitor causing it because I can't see the lines, when I make a screen dump.
