On/off button for Zen

The on/off button no longer works and the Zen is in lock mode. Seems as if the on/off button is broken. Any suggestions?

I have had this problem on/off for over a year now...first I put the unit in the refrig to cool it down...that worked a few times. Another time i plugged in an amp (via the earphone jack) and noticed it switched to lock again. I forgot to mention that once i got the unit to unlock I set the system audio to play mode: repeat all, via my playlist, that way it continues to play at each boot up. Any way, my latest lock ....I was able to keep plugging my amp jack into the ear plug and the juice of repeately doing this for about a minute , while hitting play button or removed the lock. I then turned off the unit and charged. I recommend when hooking up the player to radio or other devices via the ear plug to have the external amp off so that doesn't interfer with the player in perpetual play mode. Also just using ear plugs will not fix the problem....it has to have an amp. The voltage somehow resets the lock or at least it has for me unit...Hope this helps some one...

Take it apart. Just google how to do it, i found a post with pictures and took mine apart without much trouble (just had to buy a $5 small screwdriver kit at radioshack). the switch for the lock is actually a metal piece that is moved by that **** piece of plastic. You can move the switch easily to where you want it and put the plastic piece in the correct position. -Stoney

this happened to me but i'm not sure it will work for you.. try to put the actual switch into lock mode (push it firmly into lock mode) then slowly push it back to the unlock mode.. if it doesnt work the first time try it a couple of more times. it worked for me..

Hi Lil

Sounds like you have tried all the obvious. The unit may have a terminal hardware problem or an unrecoverable firmware problem. I suggest that you return the unit to a dealer and see if there support guys can produce a cure for you. I am looking for any other things that you may try. Will post any for you soon

Graeme

Creative Zen Freezes on Rebuilding

My Zen locked when I turned it on. It wouldn't play the track the screen was on so I pressed the reset button and turned it on again. It was then still locked on the same track so I tried turning it off which then froze as it was shutting down. After another reset it went through the rebuild screen then locked again. I then used the above fix (pin in reset, then hold play and power switch down). Taking me into the kind of bios screen I formatted the contents. Then added my library again. It's now working fine.
This is the second Zen I've had because the first one had the same problem so I took it back without trying to fix it. Both times the problem occured when I had my Zen plugged into my car stereo auxiliary jack whilst switching the ignition on in my car. I can't understand why this would cause the problem but I'll avoid doing that in future.

My zen is stuck on docked mode

I had the same problem. Have you tried a soft reset - paper clip into small hole on the side with the on/off slider. Hols it in for about 5 seconds.

Corrupt firmware

Reset the player by holding down the play/pause button and pressing the reset button with a paperclip at the same time. (the reset button looks like a little hole on the side.) This will put the player into recovery mode. Try rebooting the player. if this doesn't work, reinstall the firmware using that option in recovery mode. Firmware problem for zen vision M

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard

Zen V is dead
"If your Zen V is dead, wont respond to anything, try this, plug it in to the computer, hold the power switch in the on position, THEN trigger the reset button, worked like a charm for mine, I had thought it a lost cause."
