Ice dispenser only dispenses barely frozen wet ice.
Our Samsung RS2677AA icw dispenser only dispenses warm wet ice. If we place an ice cube tray in the lower freezer section, we get very cold, not wet ice. Is there any way to make the ice dispenser yield really cold ice?
Re: Ice dispenser only dispenses barely frozen wet ice.
Sorry, I made a mistake in respnding to the question. I gave the temperature of the refrigerator because it surrounds the ice maker. The temperature of the refrigerator is 38 degrees and the temperature of the freezer is -2 degrees.

The ice stays in the cubemaker tray for a set time and then empties into the bucket. If the freezer was too warm the ice wasn't frozen enough when the cube maker emptied it and it all stuck together. Now the fridge is cold again empty the bucket, make sure there is no ice stuck in the dispenser and try again. If it is a Samsung fridge do the above and turn it off for 30 seconds and back on again. Sometimes the controller and display freezes and reads the wrong temperature.
you may not of gotten the metal rod on the bottom of the tray back in the right spot. remove the tray and slide it back in if problem persists you probably have a frozen or failed ice solinoid. this is behind the back wall and engages when you have cubed ice selected.remove the back panel and then remove solinoid and let it thaw rub the plunger with a little wd-40 and reinstall if you don't see any signs of the plastic melted or the p[l;unger remains stuck in the solinoid body. if problem reoccures replace the solinoid
Your selector solenoid is not working. Next to the auger motor there is a selector. You will see a plastic peice in a hole to the left of the auger.....Try to move it up and down. If it won't move it is more than likely frozen in one spot. Try to defrost it. If that does not work then replace the solenoid.
Remove the ice dispenser bucket. You will see a square hole at the back wall with a horizontal rod in it. You should be able to move it up and down with you fingers. If not, it may just be frozen. Warm it with a hair blower and try again. If still no luck, the WR62X58 dispenser solenoid may be burnt out / melted and need to be replaced. It is attached to the metal just above and behind that square hole. The removable tray at the bottom of the dispenser recess is a part number WR17X12133 for a PSS26PSTA SS. Contact any GE servicing dealer or general appliance servicer near you to get one. You can get parts direct from GE also, but the won't be any cheaper, and you may pay more shipping and handling.
You may not need to replace the solenoid. If you hear the hum, and not a loud click and don't see then rod move, it may be frozen with ice. Test it manually with your hand, it should be free to move up and down. If not, then it is frozen with ice. Remove the ice dispenser and let it thaw and dry out. You should then be able to move to rod and it will work fine, at least until it freezes again. Anyone know how to prevent it from freezing up? Its a continual problem for me
I had this problem. The root cause was that mineral deposits had built up in the ice cube tray. The ice would not "dump"... but stayed in the tray after the dump cycle. I did not catch it quickly and eventually the plastic frame broke. That was easily replaced. Inspect the ice tray to see that all cube surfaces are smooth. If there are mineral deposits, they need to be removed. Do NOT scrub with anything abraisive or you will ruin the tray. As you are looking straight on at the Ice maker, with the bin out, depress the small black retangular tab. The tray assembly will come apart to remove the tray. Rinse the tray, then fill with warm vinegar. Let it soak. You may scrub with soft cloth, finger or fingernail to remove deposits. Replace the tray and you should be in business.
