No this is free, but Fixya does not have a team of experts waiting to answer your questions. The answers just come from average people reading this website. You just have to wait, BE PATIENT, and take a lot of the answers with a grain of salt.

Your problem sounds like a defective flash mechanism. As you just bought the camera, it should still be under warranty. First try to take the camera back to the store for a replacement (be nice when you do it). If they can't help, Canon will certainly help under the camera's warranty. Flash wont work and lightning bolt flashes when trying to take the picture

The flashing lightning bolt is your camera telling you it's trying to charge the flash but can't get enough power from the battery. Is the battery old...been charged many times...neglected and left to completely discharge? Any of these things can reduce the capacity of a battery.

How do I turn off the flash for the canon powershot a630?

First of all, the flash can not be turned off in "Auto" mode. You can turn it off in any mode other than Auto. Would recommend Program "P" mode, which is very similar to Auto, but allows you to modify certain minor items such as flash and white balance.

Rotate your mode dial to "P", then press the button on the back with the "lightning bolt" icon. Press until the lightning bolt with a slash shows up on your LCD screen. The flash is now turned off in Program mode. Try taking a picture.

Remember, if in low light conditions you'll need to keep the camera extra steady without flash to get a clear picture. Recommend placing the camera on a table or chair (or even better, use a tripod), then using its autotimer to snap the picture.
