I have an older Compaq N800C laptop which I bought a new hard-drive for awhile back (Samsung HM160HC) to replace the stock drive that crashed. Was able to load XP and it has been working fine... So I know this combination works.
Recently I pulled the drive and formatted it to use on a different laptop (an NC8230)... I've read where the NC8230 and HM160HC are compatible. However, I wasn't able it make the combo work, so I re-imaged (using an image I created with Acronis True Image Home of the original XP load when I installed it the first time) the drive to go back into the N800C from where it came from.
Now when I try and reboot, I get a ''Non-system or disk error - Replace and strike any key'' error. If a view the drive (connecting via a USB interface to my home computer), all of the boot files appear to be there...
Maybe too, it's the same reason the NC8230 wouldn't work. However, with the NC8230, the BIOS recognized the drive and it successfully passed the BIOS hard-drive test. When I tried to boot up, it simply went to a blinking cursor on a black screen.
Any light you can shed on either issue (N800C and/or NC8230) would be greatly appreciated.

The drive has been working (for six months) in the N800C, so the two (N800C and HM160HC) are compatible pieces of hardware.
