Unable to connect 2nd laptop to wireless

I am running windows XP and my wireless works perfectly. I am trying to connect a second laptop running Vista, which did work fine and then stopped. I have tried reconnecting using both the Wizard and manually and both computers say they are installed, but the Vista laptop cannot see me as a Network. When I ran a diagnostic it said the Vista was not authorised. Don't know where to go next.

Re: Unable to connect 2nd laptop to wireless

Had to get an IT guy in who changed my settings from a WEP to a WPA. Seems to be working OK at the moment. Thanks everyone for your help. Unfortunately I am not an expert so please don't ask me for help.

Try searching for drivers on the second laptop. also, try updating the firmware of all your networking equipment. those things alone might solve your problem.

Hi! I have this Motorola MR850G router which is working whenever I use my Windows XP Work Laptop and I get internet connection and can browse and everything. However, when I use my personal laptop...

First try lowering the security of the Motorola to a WEP 64 bit encryption than try to connect with the Windows 7 box if it connects than go to the next level of security (wep 128, wpa, wpa2, and so on) see where it stops working than give me all setup information in details for me to help you... if it does not work even with NO encryption at all than it is a very good idea to update the firmware of the router after update than try re-doing the encrypting test above if it still fails, connect with a hard wire (ethernet patch cord) see if you have a connection at that point... you seam to say you reset the router but if all of the above is still not work it could be a MAC address filter rule so you could try re flashing the firmware even if it's to the latest version... compare the distance you are physically from the router when you connect with your friend's router and your's it could be a poor reception from your Win7 box....

Good luck!

At&t wireless router and magic jack setup

It could be the router which is giving you issue. Press and hold the reset button for 30 second and this makes the configuration to go back to its previous settings. The reconfigure the router with a new SSID and security key. Try connecting to the wireless network, the computers will consider it as a new network and will connect without any issues

3 failed attempts to connect HP DV6t laptop

First as a test, turn off the wireless security, and see if the laptop can connect.

If it can connect with security turned off, then it is likely that you are making some type of mistake with the password. (Such as caps lock being on, or having a keyboard error.)

Good Luck!

My HP laptop won't connect to my NETGEAR WGR614v7 router

What is your operating system (Vista/XP, older Windows)? Have you turned on the router's wireless router radio from the computer that is connecting? (Login to the router's setup page at or (depending on the router) and go to Advanced menu and click Wireless Settings.) While you are there, enable the SSID Broadcast (another checkbox hust below the one for Wireless Router Radio). Now check if your laptop can see the router.

Additional FAQs that might be helpful are at That page has a link to setting up XP for wireless networking as well.

Cannot connect my wifi laptop to the wireless router

If you use your original Win XP disks, there's a chance you now have XP SP1 (Service Pack 1). Make sure you've made all the necessary Windows Updates as working with WiFi networks was enhanced with XP SP2. Then you can try to find your wireless network and connect to it. If you had a secured network you'll need your previous network key (similar to a password, but without a username, the wireless key is needed to exchange data with the router) If you can't remember the settings on your Linksys you can reset it to factory settings with inserting something into the reset hole to press the hidden buton and holding it for several seconds until lights on the front flash. Then you HAVE to run the initial install procedure (find your CD and Quick Start sheet) because your router will be open and unsecured.
