Question about Olympus Camedia C-5060 Wide Zoom Digital Camera

2 Answers

Focus camera will not focus, even sight screen is out of focus The camera will not focus. When switched on it beeps with a flashing green light near rthe view-finder and the lens housing extends. This repeats and the then the viewing screen goes blank. Pressing the AEL button will illuminate the viewing screen, but it is out of focus. Half depression of the shutter makes no difference. I had previously some intermittent operation of the zoom mechanism. The camera has not been dropped or jarred. Ben

Your camera is having a problem positioning the lens unit, more than likely the cause is grit/dirt in mechanism, I recommend that you take the camera to a autorised service agent to have it stripped, cleaned and rebuilt. This is not really a repair that you should attempt yourself it needs to be dismantled in a dust free enviroment, sorry I can't be of more help.
I have posted some general details below, Cheers

Thanks for posting your camera issue on here for us to assist you with. First of all, I've ran into this same issue with my camera. This isnt something that you can do on your own, this is something that will require the special touch from a repairman who specializes in repairing delecate lenses. Dont push it any further then you can because it will only get worse, trust me since mine ended up having to be replaces vs. fixed because I pushed it too far. It left me with out a camera for a while, however, this is jsut something you cant do with our own hands or features on the camera. I'd suggest to notify the manufacturer of your product regarding local service centers who are authorized since they will do the best repairs for your item, even if it might be out of warranty. Most of the time they can give you an estimate of the repairs. If you dont want to pay that, then you can most likely find another camera just as less exp. as the lense might cost you to replace..they are not cheap.

Keep us posted and let us know how things go for your camera.

Nikon D3100 won't flash

If you have set the main dial to the green camera logo, with automatic in bad light, and the flash still does not pop up, you could start worrying. The mail mode dial is very easy to turn, even without knowing. It happens to me more often than I would like. My next camera must have a special button to lock this dial.
When you chaco the manual, you will see there are settings the flash won't pop up and even when it is up it won't flash, because that menu excludes the flash.

Turns on for 1/2 second and turns off

It sounds like the focus element inside the lens is stuck. This is usually either due to an impact knocking the elements out of alignment, or to sand/debris entering the focus motor's gear drive and preventing it from rotating. The buzzing sound you hear is the focus motor attempting to rotate, but buzzing up against some obstruction. When the lens extends, you hear a buzzing sound, and then the lens retracts - this is usually the cause of the issue. Unfortunately there is not much you can do externally to fix this problem. The camera will need to be taken apart and repaired by a professional or by the manufacturer. David Millier

The reason the camera has the green light is not to warn that the flash is off. The green light is used to help the camera auto-focus in low light situations. If you disable auto-focus and use manual focus the green light should not flash when taking the picture. Let me know if that helps!

When I press the shutter half-way, it is my understanding I should see a red light in the window telling me it is focused....there's no light. Also, my BEEP is turned ON, but it never beeps??? Canon...

The Canon Rebel XS is a digital camera not film. Most of your problems may stem back to not having a media card installed. Here is a great link for the Canon EOS Rebel XS showing important functions If you have a media card installed and it has been formatted to the camera then the red light you mention will only flicker for an instant on your focus point, you got to be pretty quick to see it. The in focus light you want to see is a small green dot in the lower right corner of the viewfinder. This "green dot" needs to be solidly lit not flickering. When the camera has achieved focus the "beep" should sound, I suspect you haven't reached focus yet. Not focusing could be as simple as having the lens switch set to manual focus or the camera set to manual focus.

Camera will not focus and on AF it flashes green dot with a 9

the flashing green dot is caused by the camera not able to focus, and is typically from the following:

1. not enough light - if you are in Aperture Priority, try increasing the ISO
2. low contrast subjects - the camera can't find a good point to focus on
3. overlapping near/far objects - again, the camera can't decide which one to focus on
4. Repetitive patterns

You can go into manual focus, or, auto focus on something the same distance away and lock the focus and shoot.

Focusing Still Photos with SD870 IS

If you check page 45 in the manual, you'll see that the orange light during the half press indicates that the flash is turned on. A single beep means that the camera is having difficulty getting a "focus lock" (usually when shooting in low light conditions). See page 100 of the manual for suggestions on how to improve the chances for getting a well-focused picture.

Camera will not stay on.....

the 3 beeping sound means that the camera has low battery capacity. the lens is stuck out because there is incorrect battery connection. there is an option on the camera setting for the battery type. try this one:
-turn the camera on
-click on Menu button
-select options using left/right, up/down button
-select Set up 2
-Select Battery type
-Select Alkaline for non-rechargable
or Ni-MH for rechargable
-click OK button

this setting should be done when using camera for the first time and whenever you are switching battery types, from rechargable to non-rechargable and vice versa.
