Question about Televison & Video

Convergence problems Several weeks ago we moved our tv when remodeling and also when we were scraping up the old flooring which made a lot of vibrations and noise our tv's convergence was messed up. We tried to fix it by using the convergence 1 and 2 but the red is shifted to left and cannot be adjusted. The green seems to be aligned on convergence 1 and the blue is fine. Please help.

Hi 4isenuf.
You have a problem with the convergence ICs.
It your Tv dosent fix by useing the convergence or autoadjustment, that means you have to replace your convergence.
If you want to know more about what to change and you are wiling to open it up, let me know i can help, you, but if you dont have experience in doing that, i strongly recomend you not to open it, but call an expert.
They may charge you something relavively expensive (above 200 maybe) but its better to pay them that than risking your TV and breaking it furthermore.

The problem is in the convergence integrated circuits.(chips) There are two of them that need to be replaced and I recommend to consult a local tv repairman. Because the old ones must be unsoldered and the new ones soldered back in with a soldering iron of good quality. Requires proper tools to unsolder

Some projection tv's have a convergence module that could be bad since the red is off and not bowed. Alignment could also be done in the convergence service mode found by using the remote control with the proper entry. this I realized could be the problem if the red is not bowed!

I remember now working on a Samsung and only the blue was off and not bowed. Problem was in the convergence module. I suggest you seek a qualifed tv repairman.

Tv has double image color red and a curl line on left upper corner also sometime in middle of tv it has line

This sounds like a problem with "convergence" of the TV. Convergence is the electronic aiming of the Red, Blue & Green projectors. Typical convergence problems look like double or triple images on part or all of the screen, wavy lines, curled edges, excessive red, green or blue color or tint, etc. Sometimes, convergence issues can be corrected in a menu setting of the TV that has to do with "Picture Settings" or "Advanced Settings".

If the colors are out of alignment a great deal or went out "all of a sudden" it will probably not be repairable via the menu adjustment described above - but is certainly worth trying.

If it does not straighten out with the menu adjustment, it will probably require replacement of the convergence integrated circuit(s) chips located in the TV. This was a big ticket repair years ago, but can be done sometimes for as little as $40 in parts. Don't let the low price fool you though.. It can easily take several hours (or more!) to access, remove & replace the components and reassemble the TV. Soldering skills are a must - and I'm not talking about soldering plumbing pipes here either. These are delicate electronic parts and need a 15 - 30 watt soldering iron and desoldering braid or solder ****** and LOTS of patience to perform CORRECTLY. As such, it is another "not a DIY project" unless you're willing to turn your TV into a large floor model paper weight. If you decide to attempt this repair, you should google your TV brand and model along with the term "convergence". Parts, costs and procedures vary by TV. Unplug the TV for a day or so before starting the work to let capacitors discharge fully - just to be safe. Lastly - don't forget the heat sink compound - it is an absolute *must*!

Problem after replacing convergence board

Yes, you do need to set up the convergence in order to get the picture geometry correct. the antenna and maybe some other settings will need to be restored through the appropriate user interface screens. You will need your owners manual for a guide.

Your power supply is going south, I have an old sony with the same problem. The voltage level drops and does not have enough 'kick' to start. It will work better when it is warm. The module will need to be replaced.

Convergence

You need to most likely replace the convergence output IC's probably STK392-110's and check associated resistors around it. HD is not mandated for 2009, only digital braodcast it is at that point all analog television broadcast must stop.
