Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

1 Answer

Recovery? Hi I'm looking to help my son. He got an XBox 360 for Christmas, and bought a Live subscription. It was all going fine, until he went to his friend's house and used the subscription. While he was there, he 'recovered' his gamertag, and now he can't recover it again at home. Do I understand correctly that he has thrown away the subscription? The XBL woman was useless and told him to keep trying. She didn't say that you can only recover once, but I read a post on another forum that did say this. Is that what happened? Can you repeatedly recover the gamertag? (sorry if I misuse any terms) Thank you!

Re: recovery?

Hi Viktoriag,
Once you recover your gamertag for the first time, it is signed up for the IP address you signed up on.
In other words, he can only play using the gamertag at his friends house.
Theres a few options such as getting a wireless router for his home, but thats alot of money and time for a little subscription.
Alternatively, you can call the xbox support tam and ask them torelocate.
Hpe this helps, good luck

Cannot use console until subscription payments are udated

Hello! Your Xbox is simply telling you that in order for you to access any of the online content available for the Xbox 360, you will have to update your subscription payments by adding a valid credit card to the account credentials so that Microsoft is able to charge you for your usage of their online service, Xbox Live. Until you update your subscription payment option, you cannot access the online content. To update your information on the account, go to, log into your account and then head on over to account details and then "Payment Options" and then update your information by entering your valid credit card information. Hope this helps! Good luck! :)

If my son has XBox Live Gold Membership do we just need an internet connection to play or do we require extra GB per month to play?

The xbox live gold membership is paid for when you buy it. It never runs out until you have used all of the time you bought. Like say you bought a 12 month subscription it will last you the whole year until the day you bought the last one and activated it. Only time you use money is when you want to buy something from xbox live. All you need is the internet wifi or direct cable works. You can actually use your xbox live account on any xbox. Say if his friend has an xbox and has xbox live he can then use his account on his friends xbox to play online with his friend. You dont have to worry though every time he goes to an xbox he has to recover his xbox live account info so no one else can use it while he is using it. There is also a few new updates to keep his account safe as well when he does want to do something like that. also you can go into family settings and make it so he cant buy anything with out a pass code even put a timer on it with a pass code to limit time of play. So inclosing no you dont have to buy GB it just uses your internet connection and it does cover the cost of play for as long as you bought the subscription. Hope this helps :)

I for Christmas brougt a year subscription my email address hopefully should b on file I have the confirmation email if that's any help to get my year back cause I downloaded a one month trial after...

Did you purchase the subscription through XBOX live or did you purchase a code from a retailer? If you purchased it over XBOX live, you would have needed to been signed into your xbox user profile. That is the profile that the Live subscription would be attached to. If you ahve multiple users on your xbox, check the gamertags and see which one is a "gold" member. That is the one that probably had the subscription given as a year.

Mtu keeps saying failed

I assume you mean you can't play games online?

Is your account Gold or Silver? (Go the the Marketplace blade, then down to account information, membership.)

You can only game online with a Gold subscription, which is like $50/year.

Old (Original) Xbox - Live Account

You will have to purchase a subscription code
I'm not sure if you can get them at retail stores, but they are available on Ebay. Don't get the ones that state theya re for xbox live gold membership.
You can also get the xbox live starter pack which includes 3 months xbox live and a headset (that is if you can still find them, again ebay is a great starting place)
That's how I did it.
Happy gaming

Having trouble conecting to xbox live xbox 360

Well I've been having problems as well especially with Call Of Duty 4. I'm 14 and I was told its simply the Christmas overload that everyone has gone out and bought the system, games, and xbox live. Give it a month or so and see how it works out. Also, if you have a router, try connected the ethernet cord (if u have one) to the modem may work but dont take my word for it. Also, be sure you have DSL or Comcast. Good Luck.

Xbox 360 Cannot access Xbox Live

My son had the same problem with his xbox 360 and xbox 360 support told me that the prior owner did something illegal and the console has been banned permanently.

We are trying to get xbox 360 support to remove the code.
