Question about Vizio P2 42 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television
Heard loud pop picture wnt out, turned it back on 3 minutes same pop now now picture only audio
Vizio P50 Death pop no more video.. gets sound.. 2 yr old set pais $1800 at costco.
Common Issue.. Called Vizio .. told me has lifetime full waranty.. they knew from pop and no video what was wrong.. ordered parts without looking at set. Sending repairman out all in lass than 1 week.
Just be nice when you call.
They tell you to unplug for 30 sec. Plug back in and hold powerbutton when replug... it doesnt work. Get kicked up to level 2 support... problem solved... as long as repair works...

I have p50-hdm and had my TV fixed twice - it cost ~$900 each time which was covered by costco warrenty. From what understand, this is a known issue and the solution is to replace the main board, left and right sustainer boards with new board that have been modified by Vizio to resolve this issue. After this experience I will always buy from Costco and extended warrenty is no longer an option for me.

I have the Vizio JV50P (Plasma) after 2 months it's started to make a loud pop sound then no picture. Vizio sent a third part repair man to replace the power board, main board, left and right sustainer boards and no less then 24 hours later... I had the same issue. I was just on the phone this evening with "Vizio level 3 support" and they out right lied to me. They told me they never heard of this issue before and yet it all over the internet. Shame on me for not searching the internet more thoroughly for known issues with Vizio products. If I had I would have easily found the term that seems to have associated itself with the Vizio’s line of flat panel TV’s ‘The Pop Of Death”
I am current climbing the Vizio Org Chart to get my money back. I have spoken from level 1 thru level 3 tech support. Who were willing to replace the defective unit with a refurbished unit!!! NO WAY! Then I spoke with a customer service rep and then his supervisor. “No Help!!!” They read from a script and showed no compassion for my issue. They too wanted to send me a refurbished set that is only covered by the balance of my warranty! A set that has the same issue that they can not even prevent from occurring and sets made as recent as 9/07 (manufactures date), new sets! I just left a voice mail message with the Customer Service Manager of Vizio corporate (aka V, inc.) and will await his call back tomorrow. I then searched the internet and found the term that seems to be growing in association to Vizio… ‘The Pop Of Death’ I can not wait to hit him with that term tomorrow! If I do not hear back from him, I will contact his superior. It’s very easy to find that information on the BBB. As far as I am concern Vizio is not only a poor product but a deceptive company who so far does not stand by their product. I will follow up this post in a week or so.

Usually the pop of death is a regulator ic on either the y-sustain or the x-sustain boards. unfortunatly there is some trouble shooting involved to isolate which board. boards are available from shop jimmy, reasonably priced. as a 30 year tv repairman, i have never done so many repairs till these plasmas and lcds came along.

My Vizio JV50P HDTV10A I found at the garbage dump 2007 would turn on, make a pop sound, then nothing. So I replaced the bulged electrolytic caps on the power board with caps I scrounged off other discarded board, and got the perfect picture in two hours of beer drinkin 'n solderin to coast to coast. I used panasonic caps (cruved T on top) FC type I believe? 1 - 10v 1000uf & 9 - 10v 3300uf & 1 - 16v 470uf & 1 - 50v 680uf. The board had solder point all on one side opposite the cap can, so it was easy to do a pro solder job by flux & sticking the legs just out of the board surface. Life was good that day fer an asm animal. I hope you can make your own good luck in this way too, & thanks Fixya fer just being yourself.

Just experienced the "pop of death" on 18 month Vizio. Thankfully I purchased it at Costco and they pick up where the 1yr Vizio warrantee was out so I am awaiting a visit from a 3rd party repairman.

This tv is probably made by LG. 4 modules LG recommends replacing. Repair is about $1200. Fixed a couple LG.Zenith tv's with this problem already.
