I have a Everio GZ-MG35U camcorder and when I turn

I have a Everio GZ-MG35U camcorder and when I turn it on it says that the lens cap is on when it isn't. Seems like the lens is turned off inside. I connected to my computer to see if it would install the correct driver and it seemed to have as it said your dirver was installed and is ready to us. I am running a HP computer with Windows Vista - 64 bit.
For a while I would try a play a video that was on the camcorder and I would get voice and a plain green screen. I am able to play videos now but I cannot take any as it is dark and says lens cap is on. Can anyone help.
