I cannot keep the pilot light going. It goes

I cannot keep the pilot light going when I try to start it.  I can get it lit, but it goes out when I release the button.  It goes through up to 6 thermocouple per year. It runs great once I get it started. I just have great difficulty starting the unit.  What else could it be?  The unit is about 5 years old.  It was here when I bought the place.  I think it may have something to do with the gas pressure.  I think that there may be too much, and it is blowing itself out when I release the button.  I am not sure exactly where the pressure screw is on the unit.  I am open to suggestions!

First you want to look at the pilot nozzle. from the very end it should appear to be "8" shaped. If this is not the case than the nozzle must be replaced. This pinch in the center end of the nozzle is the restricter and allows for an even flame to the thermocouple. There are adjustments for the volume of gas to the nozzle but they should not be changed from the factory default settings. Thank you, Dana

The pilot light is not on how do I switch it back on?

Turn the gas valve off all the way, make sure you don't smell gas and wait an hour or so. The gas valve should have an on setting and a pilot light setting. Turn the gas valve to pilot light and you should be able to push the vlv button down. At this time hold a flame to the pilot light outlet. It should light and when it does keep holding the vlv down for about 15-30 seconds. IF you let off of the vlv and the pilot light goes out, you may have a faulty sensor. IF it stays lit when you let off the vlv. back your face away from the unit and turn the valve to the on position. Operate the cooker as usual making sure that the burner does indeed light when called for. If the pilot light will not stay lit, make sure the sensor is enveloped in the flame. If the flame is too small you may have to change or clean the pilot flame outlet. To replace the sensor, remove it from the mount by the pilot outlet(once it has cooled) then follow it back to the control valve and remove it useing a line wrench. YOu should be able to get one at the nearest hardware store.

Pilot light keeps going out

pilot light keeps going out! more then likely its the thermal coupling doing this. if bad it shut all gas to heater for a safety measure. just shut power off, then turn gas off and replace it. then you should be ready to go. to relight heater hold down on gas vavle knob in the pilot position, hold down and light it at the coupling where gas comes out. when it is lit, continue to hold down for 60 seconds. release knob very slow. then if its lit, turn to the run position. if flme goes out, wait at least 5 minutes to expel the gas fumes and turn to pilot and try again. good-day !

if you have done these and it still doesnt stay lit, buy a new thermocouple.

I have a Kenmore Power Miser 12 gas water heater that the pilot light keeps going out. The water heater has been in service for 45 months. The pilot light has a blue flame with some orange flame flares...

check and or replace the thermal coupling. the coupling goes into the main gas control, if the coupling is bad it will shut off gas supply. as a safety measure.

Pilot ignights, keeps sparking then goes to lockout

I have the exact same model with the exact same problem. Did you ever figure out what the problem was? I just picked up a new gas valve, but maybe i should check the flame sensor first. In my systems case the electronic ignition fires, which lights the pilot, but it keeps firing even though the pilot light is lit. So I think it could be the flame sensor, how do I remedy that or check it out. I would like to check this out first before dropping in the gas valve, cause they arent cheap and I can still return it before its installed.

Pilot light keeps going out

Either the pilot light orfice is dirty, and you will need to pull it out and clean it, or the thermocouple is bad. If the pilot goes out as soon as you let the button go then it is most likely the thermocouple. If the pilot stays lit for a few days or hours then you will need to clean the pilot orfice, heres how:
1 turn off the gas supply
2 unhook the main burner gas line from the thermostat, this is the line that goes to the burner
3 unhook the pilot supply line it is usually next to the main burner line
4 unhook the thermocouple from the thermostat
5 remove the burner assembly
6 take the orfice out of the pilot line and clean it out by blowing thru it, use an air compressor if needed.
7 reassemble and light pilot

Light pilot on Royal deep fryer. Pilot will not stay lit. Second fryer has larger pilot have no trouble keeping it lit. How can I adjust the pilot so that it will stay lit?

there is a small adjustment screw on the gas valve, turn it clockwise to increase pilot,if that does not work the vent cap on the gas regulator on the back of the unit could be stopped up,remove that cap ,clean out or replace unit can operate without it just fine.If you increase the pilot and it still wont stay lit replace the thermocouple
