Question about Computers & Internet

Saving Photo Images on a CD.

I have successfully used this programe to burn music CDs. When I try to burn photo images to a CD for storage I am not successful. It indicates the burn is successful, however when I put the CD in D-drive I get a series of files on the screen but no images when I click on them. I use Photoshop Elements 5. What is the problem? What am I doing wrong? Will this program do what I want? My E-mail address is lauchiesr@ns.sympatico.ca

I am using Nero Express Version 5.5.10.56. Here is the list of files. CDI EXT MPEGAV SEGMENT and VCD. When I click on VCD file I get a message "Cannot open because it is the wrong type of file". On the others- "Document name or path is not valid". Perhaps I need a better program to save photo images to a CD. If so, can you recommend one?

  • Lauchie Dec 29, 2007

I tried your recomendation. When I clicked burn, a dialog box appeared telling me to insert a CD. A CD was in the D drive. I took it out and inserted a new one. A dialog box appeared again indicating there wasn't a CD in the drive. Either there is something wrong with the program or my computer. When I try to burn music it works. So I don't think it is the computer.

I think you have been very helpful so far.

What burning program are you using?

When you say you see files on the screen, what are they called? I really want to know what comes after the ".", as in xxx.jpg or xxx.psd.

Nero Express should be fine, but it sounds like you are trying to burn the wrong type of CD. I think you are trying to burn a Video CD and this is not what you really want to do. You want to burn a "Data CD". A Video CD is one that will play when you put it into a DVD player capable of playing Video CD's.

Select Data then Data Disc. Do not select "Bootable Data Disc" and try again.

At last count less than half of the solutions I've been posted have been rated. If this works for you I hope you'll take a moment and rate this solution. If it does not work, let me know and I'll help more.

  • ohiotom Dec 29, 2007

This is strange. I'm guessing you use Nero Express to burn music CD's too, is that right?

Try this. Reboot the computer. Do not start Nero Express, just put a blank CD in the drive. What happens? Does a dialog box pop up asking you what action to take? It may take a moment for this dialog box to pop up so be patient. If it does pop up then click on "Take no action" and then OK.

If this dialog box never pops up let me know.

If it did pop up then start Nero Express after you close the popup box and try burning again.

This will help us figure out if the problem is with Nero Express or somewhere else.

  • ohiotom Dec 29, 2007

One other question. Do you have more than one CD burner in your computer?

I accidentally deleted some pictures I took out with my samsung s5 this afternoon. However the pictures were saved on my memory card. Is there any way I can retreave these pictures

If you have only deleted the photos and have not taken additional photos or used the card in any way is is very likely they can be restored,

First lock away the SD card until we are ready. Find another and after saving some test images delete the images on the test SD card.

Pandora Recovery has saved my bacon and was a breeze to use.
Next step download and practice several times with your test SD until you are confident.

Next open the lock and after your are done just be happy!!

Hope this helps?

you might be burning it as data
this might be a problem with the quality of the dvd disks you are using or might be the software you are using there are lots of free burning sofrware programs on the internet
this might be because you have not selected the option to burn an audio or data dvd or your burning software does not support dvd burning

You need a burning software to burn your picture files, music, or video.
You can use NERO Burning ROM. Download it from HERE. You can use the "Data Burning" Feature in it to transfer your files into CD or DVD.

HOW I DOWLOAD MY COMPUTER PICTURE TO A CD

  1. Check your computer to see that it has a CD or DVD drive that is capable of burning CDs. This drive may be built into your computer or an external drive. Either type should work equally well.
  2. Make sure you have a CD that can be burned. There are two types of CDs that you can use.
    1. A CD-R (Compact Disc-Recordable) is a Write Once Read Many (WORM) optical medium. This means that once the disk is burned it can not be erased. This type disk is usually used for permanent storage. For example; a music CD, a picture CD, or any other type of data that you want to keep permanently.
    2. A CD-RW (Compact Disc ReWritable) is a rewritable optical disc format. This type of disk can be burned, erase, and then burned again. This type disk is usually used for temporary data storage.
  3. Decide on the type of CD you plan to burn. There are many different types of CDs that can be burned and how you proceed depends on which type you are going to burn. The major types of CD that can be burned are:
    1. Music. This type of CD is the type of CD that is normaly burned for use in a home or automobile CD player.
    2. Data. This type of CD is most often used to store files that can be used by a computer. This type of CD can not be used in a standard home or automobile CD player. They are formatted using the "ISO9660" format, which cannot be read by a standard CD player.
    3. MP3. This is a data CD containing only mp3 compressed music files. Because it is actually an ISO9660 data CD, not all CD players will be able to play it. This type of CD can contain a much larger number of songs than a music CD but can only be played on a computer or CD player specifically designed to play MP3s.
    4. Disk image. A disk image file is a file that contains an exact copy of a disk. The most common type of Disk image is an .ISO image. Disk images are usually used for storing an exact copy of a CD on a computer. By using a computer, one can burn a CD from an .ISO image and create a usable CD.
    5. Ripping. Ripping a CD is the process of taking the audio off of one CD and either storing it on a computer or burning it to a second CD, thereby making a copy of the first CD.

  4. Decide on the software you want to burn your CD with. There are many different programs that are designed to burn CD's. Some are built into the computer's operating system, while others are individual programs. These programs range from very simple to very complex. Some of these are free, while others have to be purchased.

  5. Burn your CD. Burning your CD is as simple as running the software that you are going to burn your CD with, putting a CD into your CD burner, selecting the data to be burned, and then telling the program to burn the CD

If you have Windows XP or can download a simply movie making program, you can make one yourself. Here is an image for you to copy/save to your computer:

Many CD burning programs can make Photo CDs also. Use it however, just get it onto the disc and put it in the DVD player. Pause the image so you can make your adjustments. Another source is Lucas Films. Many of his films (Star Wars) have adjustment / calibration images. I hope this was helpful, best wishes.

You should try photo recovery software to rescue the lost images, here are some you may rely on. Both programs can also recover videos and music.

Photo Recovery Software (for Windows)
Mac Photo Recovery Software (for Mac OS X)

Be careful: Before your images are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the memory card in case the original files(your images) are overwritten.
