How to get the video to a computer

I was wondering if anyone knew how to get my video off of this old recorder to my computer and make an imovie and  youTube it.  Does this Sony Handycam DCR-TRV130 even have that ability?

I have a cable with a USB end that I connect to computer and a S-Video connector to the handycam. My computer could not find a driver for the camera. My computer is using window vista. I bought the camera with the cable and a software that does not even compatible with XP. What do I do to get my pictures to the computer. I just learn about the use of the firewire and video capture hardware in this message.

If it's an analog camcorder (and I think it is) you'll need some video capture hardware to do this. There are a variety of devices made by companies like Canopus and Pinnacle that will do this. There are also some video cards that have this capablity. You might also consider using a set top DVD recorder that has this capablity. If you don't want to invest in the hardware you can use Google and type "video capture services". I'm sure you'll find someone who will provide this service for a fee.

No this is a digital video camcorder. The only outputs are S-video and an A/V connecting cable with red/yellow/white connectors on the other end.

Another suggestion is to use the firewire connector which is under the removable cover below the light. That will give you the digital output you are looking for. (assuming that you have the cable and PC connection)

Copying a recorded file so I can edit it in iMovie on my computer please

I'm pretty sure that iMovie can cope with lots of different file formats. If you can burn the file onto a DVD and get the file off the DVD onto your computer's hard drive I think iMovie will cope with the rest. I know I have worked on Imovie in the past with DV files from my camera, but I'm sure that something like an mpeg file or a mp4 file will work too. What are the file options for recording from the HDD to disc?

Cant capture video

Not having camcorder control is normal, as the ADVC110 doesn't translate DV (AV/C) control to anything else. It just accepts and replies to deck control commands so the capture application doesn't get stuck waiting for a response.

First off, make sure you only have the ADVC110, your VCR, and your computer connected. No other Firewire devices.

Be sure your have the output from your VCR connected to the ADVC's input. Connect your VCR's output to your TV. You should see in iMovie the same image you see on your TV, slightly delayed.
