A 5100 error is a carriage jam error.that means some thing is jammed in the printer at some point, you need to search for piece of paper or item jammed in the assembly.the 5100 is the carriage error and can be caused by 4 different sensors. First off the "Timing Strip" that passes through the back of the Carriage Assembly can be contaminated with ink spots and this needs to be cleaned. Open the cover and use your flashlight to examine the timing strip as much as you can see. You really don't have much access to this strip unless you remove the covers,..and doing that is considerable work. The other items that can cause this error are the sensor inside the carriage unit, the drive motor for the carriage arm, and of course the main logic card. However, 99.6% of the time it is the Timing strip which is easily contaminated with splattered ink.
if the problem still persist then you can use a power blower to blow the carriage assembly and the rollers

5100 is a carriage error. Check the timing strip / encoder strip for contamination (plastic strip about 1/4" in width) . Check for obstructions inside your printer through the gears that you can see under the lid. There may be something obstructing the gears such as dirt or paper.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: check printer 5100 error message.

error code 5100 means print head temperature rise error. In other word the print head is overheated. First, turn off your printer for some minutes (it recommended to take about 30 secs or more) and let it's cooled down. Turn on again. If the problem still persist, try to check whether the print head is good or not by comparing with another print head. Be carefully, sometimes this problem is caused by short circuitry inside the print head.

My HP Laserject 5100 Printer has the Paper Jam Problem. After that, I check printer. But i haven't seen any paper jam. When i print out, nothing show on paper and show the paper jam.. How to fix?

Hi,

This error message is displayed by the printer when paper is jammed in one or more locations. In such a case, users are recommended to remove the jammed paper from the specified location. The entire paper path must be checked for any pieces of paper. To stop the message, open and close the top most cover of the printer. Lastly, verify the flags and the sensors. If the problem persists, the cause of the error message could be a broken sensor or sensor lever.

If the ink cartridges are stuck you can manually slide them back to their default position and check for paper or junk which may have slipped down the paper chute and is blocking the ink cartridges.
Remove the blockage
Reset Printer

I just had this problem and it was easy to fix.
If this not help, buy another printer! Cheaper than service...
