Unlocked iphone

As of right now no iPhones will work on any carriers other than AT&T, unlocked or not. AT&T has exculsive rights to the iPhone until 2012, so unless you put an AT&T sim card in the iPhone it will not transmit.

Plus even if you could get the phone to work on another service providers network, as soon as you plugged the phone in to your computer, iTunes would disable it...

I bought a Brand new iphone 1.1.2 otb from ebay, i jailbroke it and then purchased a turbosim and now my iphone works with simcard on any network. My advice, because at the moment there's no software unlocking solution for a 1.1.2 otb iphone yet, the only way to get this to work with any network is to purchase a Turbosim, you can get one from ebay!
N.B get a pre-programmed one.

I don't think this is right as I have seen services other than AT&T and O2 in teh UK operating on unlocked phones. I don't know about t mobile, but it might be worth revisiting ebay to see what services other sellers say will work. This might help you to get there by a process of elimination. Also, itunes asks you whether you wish to update which everyone says you should decline as I understand that versions up to 7.5 at least will not re-lock the phone.
