What is a wap/key for the playstation 3

The WPA key (WEP or WPA-PAK are the options you get when setting up) is a method of securing wireless networks. The key in simple term means the password. This setting is not dependent on your PS3 but rather your WIRELESS ROUTER. If you do not use a wireless router then this setting does not apply to you.

You will need to log into your router settings. Using a PC, connect directly to the router and enter the routers IP address in a internet browser. (I type in in the address bar of my browser on my pc to connect to my Linksys router.) LAN-IP address is normally set to a default, private number. Linksys routers (which is what i use at home) for example use for their internal IP address. D-link and Netgear routers typically use some US Robotics use and so on. But you should be able to find what your router ip address is by going to their website or looking in your users manual.
i'm able to find my WAP key under the "router access" in the sub menu of "administration tab" its all ******** out like any other protected fields but i know what mine is and is able to change it there.
In the security settings there should be a WPA key setting. If this is blank then your wireless internet is unprotected. If this is set, then you will need to enter the corresponding key into your PS3 to obtain access to the network.
if you know who set up your wireless network for your home you can ask them for the WEP or WPA key. in simple term that is just a password that they use to set up your WEP or WPA

Almost every time we use our ps3 to stream netflix our internet connection (both land connection and wifi) gets interrupted. I reset the modem and everything is fine but this is a pain. Can you offer any...

Your PS3 and other device get same I.P. address. You need to give i.p address .

Go to your router addres
D-Link and Netgear routers- Some US Robotics routers use, and some SMC routers use

Type this address into your internet browser then
if you know
By Default Type
Admin - admin
password - password(SOMETIME ONLY ENTER)

Now you see all options like as wireless setting, devices attached,

Follow this video If you have Netgear router . But if you don't have this router you can change setting same as this router.

Hi i have a sky router n need my secondary DNS?

If you are using windows, open Command Prompt. Type "ipconfig /all" without the quotations. This will display your IP and DNS address.

If your router is connecting to the internet successfully, you don't need to change DNS settings. For the PS3 you just need to know the SSID of your router and the WEP or WPA password if your network is secured.

My ps3 internet doesn't work

Easy Pie! This is a cinch anda guarantee work through. It involves putting your PS3 into a DMZ (demilitarized zone) which simply means opening all of the ports on it.

If you have the following problems, this is likely to fix it.
  • Not being able to join rooms
  • Not being able to speak over your headset
  • Not being able to hear other people over their headset
  • Not being able to join private games
  • Any problems to do with connectivity to the PSN, especially if your computer will connect to the internet, but your PS3 won't.

Part 1-(On PS3)
  • Firstly, you will need to assign your PS3 a static internal IP address. Normally whenever a device connects to your router it will be assigned a different internal IP address. These are normally,, and so on. Assigning a static one will ensure that your PS3 will get the same one every time it connects.
  • Go to the "Settings > Network Settings > Internet Connection Settings" option on the PS3 XMB. Choose whether you are using wireless or wired.
  • Both selections should show a page called "Address Settings". Here you will need to select "Custom". Another page will then display entitled "IP Address Setting". The option "Manual" will need to be selected.
  • This will display a page where customizable IP Addresses are available to be entered.
  • IP Address - This will need to have the Static IP address in it. Use, simply because it is unlikely that 80 other devices will be connected at the same time.
  • Subnet Mask - always set to
  • Default Router - Is the internal IP Address of your router.
    1. To get the exact ip of your router you should go to
    2. Start
    3. Run
    4. cmd [Hit Enter]
    5. Type in ipconfig and hit enter, this should come up with all the ip addresses to do with your computer and the network. The address you will need to enter in this option is listed as "Default Gateway".

  • Primary DNS - Same IP Address as "Default Router"
  • Secondary DNS - Same IP Address as "Default Router"
  • Proxy When you get to the proxy screen, select "Do not use Proxy"
  • MTU Automatic
  • UPnP Enabled

Part 2-(On PC)
  • In your Internet Browser, type the address of your default gateway, this will take you to your Router Configuration Page. Look for any mention of DMZ
  • When you have found this, it will ask you for the Static IP of the DMZ host. This is simply the Internal IP that you assigned your PS3. We used
  • Finally, turn off your Router, PC and PS3 for a few minutes to ensure that the new settings are loaded. Then you're ready to go!

My ps3 will not connect to my wireless internet

Try setting a static ip address on the PS3:-

First you need to find a Windows wired or wireless device already connected to the network in order to find out the required settings

Windows XP
1. Click start --> (sometimes settings) --> Control Panel --> Network Connections
2. Double click on the active connection which will say connected underneath
3. Click Support
4. Click Details
5. Now the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, Primary DNS and Alternate DNS which are displayed should be noted.

Windows Vista
1. Click Start --> Control Panel --> Network and Sharing Center
2. Click on "View Status" to the right of your connection
4. Click Details
5. Now the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, Primary DNS and Alternate DNS which are displayed should be noted.

Set these values under "manual settings" in the PS3 but add 1 to the last number for the IP Address as this has to be unique on your network
