I have a netgear wireless router through sky,my ps3 times out when looking for ip address please help.

If you can't connect to the Internet, the problem can be anywhere along the chain of devices and technologies that connect your computer to the Internet.
Knowing how to troubleshoot your Netgear or other wireless router is an essential part of determining where the problem is and fixing it.

Click your "Start" button, and choose "Run."
Type "cmd" in the text box (without quotation marks), and click "OK."
A command prompt will open. Type the following: ipconfig /all. Press your "Enter" key.
A list of numbers and other networking configuration information will display.
Find your network adapter in this list of headers.
If you use your computer wirelessly in many different places, you may have to scroll through a lot of different options to find your adapter.
If you connect to the Internet using a cable, look for a header that begins with "Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection."
If you connect wirelessly, look for a header that begins with "Ethernet adapter Wireless Connection."
You will usually only see an IP address displayed under one header in either category.

Record your IP address and default gateway on a piece of paper or in a text file.
If your IP address is 0.0.0.0 or begins with 169.254, unplug your Netgear router from its power source.

Tips & Warnings
You can use the "ipconfig /all" command on almost any computer that connects to a network or the Internet. If "cmd" doesn't open a command prompt, you can use any method your operating system allows to open the prompt or shell. If your Netgear wireless router is not sending a wireless signal even after you've powered it off, waited 20 seconds and powered it back on, you can use an ethernet cable to attach a computer directly to the router to continue troubleshooting.

Please connect the Netgear Router to your Laptop with a Ethernet cable.
In order to connect Netgear Router to your Laptop please follow these steps:
STEP 1 : If you look at back of router there are 4 LAN ports that are together and 1 WAN or Internet port which is alone. Connect the Internet cable ( provided by your Internet Service Provider) to WAN or Internet port of router .
Now take another Ethernet cable and connect one end of the cable to any one of 4 LAN ports and connect the second end to your laptop. Now please turn on the router.
STEP 2: You can see Power, Internet, Wireless and one LAN port light there on the router. Now come to computer and try to open the router login page.
In order to open the router page , you need to open your Internet Explorer and type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar.Now it will ask for router login information .
Username = admin Password = password
If it doesn't work please try to check the IP address of your computer ( In order to check the IP address of computer, Click on START menu , goto RUN and in RUN Window please type cmd. A black window pops up under this please type IPCONFIG and check the ETHERNET adapter IP address.
Now try to open the router page using this IP address.
STEP 3: Now on the router page you can see number of option on the left side. In order to change or secure the router for wireless connection please click on WIRELESS SETTING option under BASIC SETTING.
Under the SSID : type the name for your wireless network ( of your choice) CHANNEL : it should be 11 or 6 . Security : select WPA-PSK and under key please type any password of your choice ( it must be 8 characters atleast)
Please save the setting.
STEP 4: Now unplug the Ethernet cable from your laptop. Under the wireless networks , you can find your wireless network name . Just select it and click connect on. It will ask for security key or network key please type the same password that you have created for wireless setting.
Now it will connect you to your wireless network that is secured now.

Your PS3 and other device get same I.P. address. You need to give i.p address .

Go to your router addres
use 192.168.1.1
D-Link and Netgear routers-
192.168.0.1. Some US Robotics routers use 192.168.123.254, and some SMC routers use 192.168.2.1

Type this address into your internet browser then
if you know
By Default Type
Admin - admin
password - password(SOMETIME ONLY ENTER)

PS3 Trouble due to WEP/WPA-PSK Key trouble


You can always press the reset button and wipe all settings out. You will have to re-enter passwords and encryption to protect your network.

Wireless connection


JRSavage - The solution you supllied is to assign the IP address to the client. It appears Guest is asking how to log into the Router.

Guest - If the router is a wireless router then you should not have to know it's IP to connect to it, simply looks for it's SSID in WIndows Zero Config wireless util (or the util that came with your wireless adapter)

If you're connected and looking how to log into the router itself you'll want to enter the router's IP address into the address bar of your internet browser.

If you're looking for where you enter the router's IP for NIC configuration, you would enter the Router's IP as the Gateway address.

Connection problems


Is wireless connection enabled in your routers wireless settings and not encrypted in any way until a connection is established. Make sure your router is set to enable DHCP, as this will give your wireless card an IP address automatically. Ensure your card is set to obtain an ip address automatically. If not look in your routers setup(normally by typing 192.168.2.1, in your internet browser) to see what IP address and DNS address it has given your connected pc (eg 192.168.2.3). Then go into your cards properties and use the IP address 192.168.2.4, but the same DNS address(probably 255.255.255.0); then re start the wireless pc and the router if neccasary. If you still get no connection, ensure wireless light is on; on your router, and you have no obstacles in the way of the signal. If you are using WEP encryption it is normally a Shared key setting rather than an open key setting. Please reate this solution.
