Manufacturers make their bags to certain specifications for that particular machine. Using off brand bags is never recommended. If the bag says "Made to fit a ....." then it is an off brand.

You are not using the recomended bag for te vacuum cleaner. The pores in the bag you are using are bigger than the manufacturers recomendation, so it is not retaining the dust in the bag, just in from one end and out from the other.

Changed filter and bag. no suction, dust comes out of the front of the vacuum covers the vacuum cleaner.

If it is an upright vacuum cleaner you need to turn it over and remove the base plate. There are usually 4 easy turn tabs, or 4 screws. Under there on one side behind the brush, you will see a hole where the dust goes up into the bag. Yours will be blocked. Often a piece of stick, a hair grip or something blocks the hole and then the fluff builds up on it until fully blocked.

When I use it dust shoots out the top.

It's suppose to keep the dirt inside! Joking aside did you run it without the filter at one point? I've seen them where the motor compartment is full of dirt from one use without a filter. If it's shooting dust out the likely reason is dirt has made it past the filters to the motor compartment. Otherwise they generally dont shoot dirt outwards. If this doesn't help what brand of vacuum and model would give me an idea where to start.

I don't get much suction from the hose on my DC17 All Floors. I don't see any obtacles in the hose. The suction when upright is fine.

Hello,

The way your Dyson DC17 is designed, there is a suction divert mechanism that diverts the suction to floor when the vacuum cleaner head is pushed down, and then back to the hose when the vacuum is in the upright position. If you are getting suction from the hose when the vacuum is upright, but no suction after the handle is reclined, this is actually the normal function for the Dyson DC17.

You can check to see if the filter is dirty. The washable filter on your Dyson DC17 is located directly underneath of the dust bin of the vacuum cleaner. After removing the dust bin, lift straight up on the part the bottom of the dust bin rests on. This is where the pre-motor filter is located for the DC17 models. If this filter is not cleaned on a regular basis, then it can start getting clogged, and you'll notice a loss of suction on the vacuum cleaner.

If you have further questions, please visit the link below where you may download the instruction manual. There are some trouble shooting guides at the back of the manual that you may do to try and diagnosis this further.

Dust etc collects in the filter above the dust container. The dust container remains empty. Hoover then over heats and cuts out. Collect in replaced new filters in Hoover but problem still remains.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. My question is how old is the Hoover vacuum? If it less than a year you should really see an Authorized Hoover vacuum cleaner dealer that the problem might be covered under a factory warranty. This should not be happening and it sound to me like there is a clog somewhere in the vacuum fill area that is causing it to do this to you and the vacuum. You are lucky that you have a thermal switch that does shut it off. If not and it is over the one year factory warranty then you should see a local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or contact Hoover Cust Serv @ the website and or phone 3 listed below. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
