My XPS M140 is slow. It pauses for no reason

My XPS M140 is slow. It pauses for no apparent reason every 10-30 seconds even when I am not doing anything. I have tried uninstalling recently added programs, virus scanning and defragmenting my computer.

Speed up your computer by:

-- cleaning system junk
-- optimizing computer services
-- optimizing internet
-- repairing registry
-- defraging registry
-- clearing browsers junk

do these things with some secure tool such as Intel Software Partner Reginout.

Hi,
If the system is pausing for 10-30 seconds , there could be some bad sectors on the harddrive or , there are some unwanted programs running in the background
To check if your hdd is working fine
1. restart your computer
2. And press the F12 key slowly 5 times
3. Run onboard diagnostics on the hdd.

Thanks for using Fixya

Need to reset the bios password on my dell xps m140 laptop.

You would have to reset the whole bios to default which maybe something you cannot do. The only other method would would be to take the laptop apart and remove the battery that keeps the motherboard BIOS memory powered. It should look like a large watch battery. Remove for 5 to 10 seconds, and replace. Then put the laptop back together and that should reset the BIOS, password and all.

My dell xps m140 keyboard is making double letters

Letters may be sticky. Did you drop coffee, soda or any liquid on the keyboard? Does the letter key "stick" and come up a second after you release it?
You may need to clean or replace the keyboard. To be on the safe side BEFORE you do it, plug a full size keyboard on the back of your laptop and check if the problem goes away.

2007 DELL XPS M140 LAPTOP WILL LOCK DUE TO 256M MEMORY STICK

Normally you boot up the laptop without a memory stick in the USB port.
Check your BIOS settings for the boot up device order.
You should have the hard drive as the first boot device, you can have the CD as the first boot device and the hard drive as the second boot device.
You should not have the USB port as the first boot device.

Dell XPS M140 Very Slow In Booting Up and General Use

Run a check disc, or hard drive test in the bios, if any part of the test fails, then the hard drive is failing and will need replaced. Delete anything from the start up section of the start menu/programs, and download and run CCleaner form filehippo.com, it will help keep your computer clean and running fast/smoother. Also, are you using Norton? If so, remove it and use the AVG. You can find it at File Hippo as well.
