Question about Toshiba 55H70 55" Rear Projection Television
I have a 55h70, I've read many of the other posts and think I probably need to replace my ICs -- but the twist is that after an hour or so of being on, my picture looks perfect.
I guess I've had the set for about 5 years, after 1 year I noticed that when I'd turn it on the picture would be horrible, but after about 10 mins it got back to normal. As time went on (maybe a month) it started taking longer and longer to "warm up" and converge the colors (it's the top half of the picture only that has this problem). That became unbearable to me and I bought a plasma for cheap. I put the 55h70 away, meaning to get it fixed "one day".
4 years later I've pulled it out hoping to hook up a wii to it, and surprise, it didn't fix itself. After the set is on for about an hour the picture gets back to normal. If I turn the set off and back on, the picture is good... but if I turn it off for more than 10-15 mins, the whole process has to start over.
I know this is long and rambling, just trying to give as much background as possible. Here's the question: since the picture eventually becomes normal -- is this indicative that I should replace the ICs or does it indicate that maybe I should do something else?
thanks in advance for any help!
Will, sounds to me like the IC`s need to be re-soldered, probably got 1-3 joints broke, most times I`ve found that re-soldering them DOES NOT work, but yours "heals" itself so it may be all you need to do, I`d try that first and see if it holds up, if not then get the IC`s replaced and you`ve got a good set, questions? e-mail me back, good luck, BMW Rider
