Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

Linksys wrt54g router

I have two questions for you.

How secure is this router . For example if I let in a virus by opening an attachment that turns out to be a trojan will the router try to prevent it from communicating with its homebase. I know that if the router is configured properly you should be invisible to attack coming in. I have heard that a lot of routers and firewalls usually only protect you one way. Is this true?

I thought about adding an additional firewall but would this work with the router. Right now I am using two computers setup through wired only.I thought about ZoneAlarm only because it claims to protect you both ways in case you accidentally let something on your computer that gets by.

Thanks for your help. Forrest.

JeremyM49- Thanks for your help. I believe this wrt54g router has a built in firewall. Not sure whether it will protect if you accidentally open something and it tries to communicate from your computer to a homebase. I have heard that some routers with firewall protection will stop the virus by alerting you that something is trying to communicate to the internet.

Hi,
First of all, good questions.
To answer your first question, most linksys routers come with firewalls, but im not positive about this particular one.
Now for youur second one, installing a firewall ill work with linksys, Zonealarm is good, I also reccomend AVG.
Even if the router comes with a firewall, I would install one anyway, to be safe.
Hope this helps, and good luck :)

You can try forwarding ports to secured sites like 443 and 80. There is a possibility that the ports have to be opened on the router. But if the same thing happens, you can try reloading the firmware and reset the router and reconfigure
