Bought my hubby a Garmin 610t for Christmas and he is now finding that although his 610 is finding satellites and calculating routes no problem the voice guidance is not working. We have checked the internal speakers and have checked the settings (voice guidance option is set to "Guidance and Status"), volume is at 100%. However, his garmin is still not talking to him!!
Does anyone have any solutions to this problem at all?? I really don't want to have to send it back, but can't see any alternative at the moment.

Re: Voice directions not working.
First, ensure that you are using the unmuted internal speakers by pressing the power button twice while the unit is on.
Do you hear beeps (button tones) through the speakers?
These are a couple things to try:
1. Change the voice from English TTS (JILL) to English TTS (JAKE) - This will demonstrate whether the voice database has been corrupted.
2. Tap the power button twice while the unit is on to switch back to fm transmitter and attempt to use your radio to tune the sound. If you succeed here, you may indeed have a problem with your internal speaker. A return of the product may be necessary.

Have you tried resetting the nuvi 610? There is a reset button under the antenna, press it and hook it back up to the power source. this should work. See page 4 of the manual for photo and if this does not work you can try clearing the unit also on page 4.. Also have you updated you Garmin at the Garmin web site? There is usually software updates that will help it recognize the new satellites. I have attached a link to the owners manual below. http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/1262_OwnersManual.pdf
When you select an address, make sure you select the right state/town since many addresses are the same and the state/town is the only thing that makes a difference.
Your garmin has a menu, find the menu and you will be able to fo to "ERASE ROUTE" or "CLEAR ROUTE" press it. It can be worded differently, but find the option with the words erase or clear.
For inserting the right address I will give you an example:
100 Main street, Farmingdale N.Y. is your address
touch select route, it will ask you for one bit of information at the time.
select town: Farmindale NJ, Farmingdale NY it will give you a list of Farmingdale towns in US. Select Farmingdale NY. If you live in NY.
next, it will ask select street: Main st you write your street, make sure you don't choose Main rd this is Main road not Main ST
next select number: insert 100 since this would be your house number.
Remember it is very important to select the right town and the right street to get to the right address.
You can practice by inserting addresses that are near to your location and then erasing it.
The pin at the tip of the cord that goes into the car electrical output (formerly cigarette lighter) fell out. How can I get one and screw it back in. A replacement is $175-200. How much for the pin? Robert 818-991-2366
No, I Iive close to the M11, A14, A11 in North Essex, England...and the problem continues. Really I've given up. Having tried mounting the arial in different positions in the car (both horizontally and vertically behind the front windscreen) I still have not "linked" with Trafficmaster and the only subscriptions showing are one for the USA and one for France. Fat lot of good that does me!!!!
Go to the Garmin Web site's home page, avoid staring to long at the hot chick and click on "On The Trail" .. "Mapping Handhelds" .. scroll down to the second row far right and click on the 60CSx. You will then see the 60CSx page, look to the right and click on "Updates & Dowdloads", on doing so you will now see four downloads to choose from. The one you will need is "GPS Chipset Type G Ver. 2.90 as of Nov 27, 2006" if you follow this you shouldn't have any problems. If however you do i'll keep an eye on this page and try to help, this is my first GPS and also had the same issue.
The clue is that the voice is slowing and low pitch. The main processor time base has slowed... which means everything will be buggy.
First try would be to Reset the unit. Remove the face cover (GENTLY pry it loose by the fingernail groove directly under the GARMIN logo), press the RESET button, then reattach front cover... this is covered in the owners manual, available online.
If not, then it sounds like a hardware failure... time for a 1-800-800-1020 call (their customer service number)
