I have the same problem, but it seems that the problem gets worse with time...

I know it's CPU load => maybe heath problem, could it be because the silicon paste on the heathsink or the heathsink itself lose contact with the CPU? Maybe the thermistors or whatever is detecting CPU temperature get the reading from the heathsink and not from the CPU itself?

Is there a way of forcing the fan to be always on? Mine is not clogged neither is blocked, but it seems to engage randomly and for a very breef period of time.

If times permit, I'm gonna dissamble the laptop and put fresh grease on the contact area between the CPU and the heath sink, but I've read that this oesn't help.

It is either clogged with dust or not functioning.
Here is the repair manual . You can probably fix it your self.
It is on page 162.

Tom19511's solution worked like a charm. I have a DV1000, about 3 years old, and it was overheating and then shutting off. I used the service manual on this site to take apart the computer, all the way to taking the heatsink and fan off the computer. There was a huge dustball inside the heatsink that I vacuumed out. Obviously, it was constricting the airflow and overheating the computer. Now it works fine. Taking apart the computer was not hard; the trickiest part is taking all the screws out and remembering where they go afterwards.

If fan replace/cleaning doesn't work then do the following..
Replace hard-drive. Yes, do it and this time do not put the cover on it. Take 2 screws out from the plastic cover and screw hd without it. You have a damaged hd running.
This should resolve the problem. If not then you may have to change the battery as well.

(How in hell hp designed the hd compartment with no vents is unthinkable.)

HP Pavilion dv1000 PC Notebook My PC shuts down automatically

This is a common problem for many laptops. Its shutdown because of over heating.msoufeer5_2.jpg
Each mobile processoe has a max temperature rating. when the temperature reches certain degree
the processor shuts itself down to prevent damaging the chip. The number 1 cause of heat related issue is dust bunnies.

Dust is a pretty good insulator and it will block your laptop's airflow when it build up over time. The easiest way clean it is to use a can of compressed air and it through the air flow event.

If you are handy you can also take out the key board and clean the inside. you can see the cooling
fan on most laptop once you removed the key board. In some case even the out side look clean but
if you take apart the fan assembly you will see tha ther's still dust collecting inside

My hp pavillion dv1000 laptop fan doesnt work..

Hi,

Have to try to update the BIOS on your machine? usually that's what HP support do, you can download the BIOS driver to HP website. If happens that you already updated the BIOS and still the fan is not working, it means that the Hardware is faulty.

Hp pavilion dv1000 fan not working

Try to clean your fan with anti rust oil, maybe due to old age the mechanism inside your fan is already clogged.

Fan noise after a few minutes running.

Fans are typically a little noisey. If it's exceptionally loud or continues for a long time it may indicate the fan is no providing the proper cooling. Purchase a laptop cooling pad to place under the laptop while your useing it and make sure nothing is interfering with the airflow around the unit.

My hp pavilion dv1000 fan turns on for a little bit then turns back off.Do I need to replace the fan?

Hi,

Are you having any problems with the laptop overheating or shutting down unexpectedly?

Generally the fan should only run as much as it needs to in order to maintain an optimal temperature. the fan will be turning off as the laptop will be cool enough. if however, the laptop is very hot to touch you may have a faulty sensor telling the fan the laptop is cool when it isnt. this generally leads to the laptop crashing or shutting down though if thats not happening i recommend contacting HP for guidance.

it is most lekely functioning properly if you arent having any other adverse effects

Thanks

My HP Pavillion DV100 notebook shuts down whenever it feels like. What could be causing this.It is 3 years old now so off warranty. It will work just fine for a little while and then voila! shut down.

Sounds like classic overheating, check your power supply fan, or the fan of your heat sync that seats over your CPU as well as the heat resistant insulation thermal lubricant that's there to keep it cool.

When fans starts to go the bears or motor starts to stick and will intermittently stop. When when it goes altogether it ceases to turn and can cause serious overheating damage to your circuitry.

Re:My laptop turns on and then it turns right off!!!...

dv1000's have a known issue with the heat sink fan. the ball bearing in the fan (which is what allows the blades on the fan to spin) will "pop" out making it so the fan is not able to spin.

good news is its incredibly easy to fix. unfortunetly to get to it you will need to completely disassemble the computer to get to the heat sink fan.

once youre there all you need to do is squeeze the middle of the fan from both sides. you should hear or feel a little pop or click.

reassemble and enjoy.

My laptop turns on and then it turns right off!!! HELP!

hi there
It seems your laptop computer is not cooled properly which might be beacuse of a broken cpu fan as you mentioned it makes loud noise.
The reason your laptop turns off by itself is because theres a circuitry built on the motherboard which power offs itself if the internal temperature raises, this is a safety feature to prevent your computer getting burnt.
Please avoid using your computer and take it to a shop where you can have it checked for cooling.
hope this answers your question
