Question about HP mx705 17" CRT Monitor

1 Answer

Hp ms705 menu comes on without prompt

My monitor menu just comes on, I turn it off and it comes back on. Sometimes it comes on and dims to 1%. This happens sometimes every few seconds sometimes with minutes between. It did this a couple of months ago and I finally resolved the issue by restoring my computer to its factory state. This computer is 2 and a half years old and I don't need to replace it yet but I also don't want to have to restore the machine every couple of months. This is most annoying.

HP mx705 monitor menu blinks on and off intermittently. Monitor is approximately 18 months old. Unplugged monitor, re-booted, so far no luck. Came here looking for a solution.

Even my monitor HPM704 does the same thing from 12Mar08. I bought this monitor an year before. It looks like this batch of monitors have issues from factory itself. Plan to get support from customer care.

How do you dim monitor brightness

This can be done in the menu on the monitor. There should be a button that says menu. push that and sub menus will come up. There should be a choice for brightness. Most of the selections are then adjusted using the volume buttons Up or Down.

do you know what BIOS is?
when you turn on any PC BIOS runs, first. (before Windows boots)
it prompts you with text "hit F10 to enter setup" or ESC key.
if that is dim and the brightness keys are dead (max = dim)
the CCFL are dead now. as all are those old.
first they go yellow, then dim then dead.
DV4 is old and has CCFL backlamp tubes that most now are dead
after 20,000 hours of usage.

the list of used Laptops or monitors not to buy or own.

the parts are not cheap nor is the labor to do this.
gander this.

Why does my HP vs17 monitor screen keep going to blank black screen like it turned off but did'nt.....blue power button light is still on? Everything is running but no picture.....keeps happening everytime...

this old monitor has 2 issues.
1: it has CCFL tubes that love to burn out (backlamps)
most this old are long go, yell, dim.,blinking or DEAD.
2: push the menu button on front of mon. turn off power saver.

3: if the PC goes to sleep, or hibernete mode (parked)
then that is 100% normal
if you dont like feature then go to windows control panel
click power, ICON and turn off all monitor sleep /hibernate modes.

that assumes windows, no OS stated.

if the lamps are dead,
use flash light pointed to sceen, see data. ? bingo for bad CCFT tubes.
as seen here

2003 is the first one made, 14 years old it sure can be.
new to you sure,.
all monitors, from 2000 to 2010 year, are backlighted with
crude CCFL maps, that last for 2 years (shortest life full time)
the all go bad, ever one , if USED, lots.
they all: endup soon.
1: dim
2: yellow tubes.
3: flicker ands strobe (not the data just the back lamps)
4: dead.
5: totally interminttant.
just like the forecent lamps im garage and for the same reasons.
6: the osd goes dead to when above happens. menu key on monitor front, but not data seen with flash light trick.
learn when 4 happens, above, do this.

Display dims

My HP laptop monitor would go very dark (sometimes still legible) and it did it infrequently. The problem got worse and I could temporarily fix it by flicking the monitor off botton (i.e. the thing that sticks out to turn the monitor off when you close it). Ultimately, I had to replace the inverter. It was simple (once I found how to take it apart online) to replace the inverter and it fixed the monitor problem. This is after a computer technition told me that I needed a new bulb or for a little more he could get me a new monitor. Maybe there are some good computer repair guys, but I am now leary of them.
