Most car like yours require tail lamp removal to acces the bulbs, inside the trunk there will probably be some type of carpet light trim directly behind the lamp. You will either be able to fold it out of the way or there may be some type of clips that hold it. once the trim carpet has been moved you will have either plastic "wing" nuts or regular nuts to remove to pull the lamp away from the body (or you may have direct access to the bulb sockets) once the lamp is away from the body & the sockets are exposed, it is a squeeze and turn to remove the socket from the lamp. be sure to get the correct bulb - besure to re-assemble correctly or water leak may occur. the procedure may be outlined in your owners manual

Rear Turn Signal, Brake, & Marker Lights

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Open the trunk.
  3. Unfasten the nuts or other retainers from the rear trim.
  4. Unfasten or release the housing cover retainers.
  5. On some vehicles, you may have to remove the rear fascia/body panel and light assembly to get to the sockets.
need to change a turn signal & back brake - 4fd081a.gif
On some vehicles, such as this 1986 Grand Am, you must remove the rear body panel with the lamp

Depending upon vehicle application, remove the lamp socket either by rotating it counterclockwise (approximately 1/4 turn) until the plastic tabs disengage, or by squeezing the metal tangs while pulling the socket from the light assembly

Remove the lamp socket assembly by turning it counterclockwise, then pulling it out

Generally, side marker lamps use small bulbs with flat, blade-type bases, and tail lights/turn signals use larger, round-based ("bayonet") bulbs.
  1. Remove the bulb from the socket using the appropriate method. Bulbs with blade-type bases pull straight out, while those with round bases and protruding pins (bayonet-type bulbs) must be depressed, then rotated counterclockwise (approximaneed to change a turn signal & back brake - 4b5c3aa.gifrn) before pulling out.

To install:
  1. Secure the bulb in the socket using the appropriate method. Bulbs with blade-type bases push straight in, while those with round bases and protruding pins (bayonet-type bulbs) must be inserted, then depressed and rotated clockwise (approximately 1/8 turn).
  2. Install the lamp socket using the appropriate method. Depending on the type of socket, either engage the plastic tabs, and rotate the socket clockwise (approximately 1/4 turn), or push on the socket until the metal tangs engage.
  3. Install the housing cover nuts.
  4. If removed, install the rear fascia and light assembly.
  5. Install the rear trim.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable, then check the operation of the rear lights.

Have a 1997 Buick Skylark Has tail lights but no Brake, turn or hazard lights don't hear the flashers.

Hi,
If you check the brake switch first, pull connecter off and see if you have 12 volts on one side of the plug. if you have power use a small cotter pin and jump the connector the brake light should come on with the 3rd brake light also. If that doesn't work more than likely its your turn signal switch that is the culprit.

95 Regal Custom, ABS code #95 brake switch circuit and no brake lights. Replaced SLS still no change.

Check the brake light switch (location pedal) unplug the switch & bridge the wires & if the brake lights come on the switch is faulty. all you are doing by bridgeing the wires is bypassing the switch. What is SLS?

The brake lights work but the turn signals don't!! Have checked the fuses and bulbs, but not finding the problem

Fuses and bulbs OK, but wires? Additionally I suggest keep in mind that turn signals work with FLASHER devices (two independent) on 1993 Buick Skylark..

Application: Turn signal
Flasher is located: Front seating area, driver side, under dash, driver side of steering column, mounted on support bracket

Application: Hazard flasher
Flasher is located: Front seating area, driver side, under dash, above kick panel, mounted in top of convenience panel

Hope this helps (remember to rate and comment this answer).

Tail lights and dash lights come on when you push the brake

You could have one of two problems here. Firstly if you are getting a christmas tree effect on rear lamp assy ie dull glow from all the lights ,, It's most likely a bad earth/ground connection to lamp,,Secondly if anybody has changed rear bulbs or attempted to fix the problem may have inserted a single contact (21W) indicator/turn signal bulb into the Twin contact brake/tail light socket in error . one bulb (21W) has oposite located pin lugs on side of bulb the double contact brake tail bulb (21/5W) has offset pins. Good luck

95' Buick regal, 3rd brake light works, tail lights work, turn signals work, stoplight switch seems to work ie 3rd brake light working, fuse is ok, changed bulbs, but no rear brake lights.

If the third brake light works and the regular ones don't, it is most likely a bad turn signal (multifunction) switch. The switch is able to kill the brakes lights to run the turn signals, and in rare circumstances does this. I've seen it several times. It could also be wiring, especially near the turn signal switch, but it is usually the switch.
