Question about Lexmark Wheelwriter 1000 Typewriter

1 Answer

Printing issues Suddenly, I can't get the period (.), coma (,), colon (:), or hyphen (-) to print. The semicolon (;) prints fine. All others are fine also. I've replaced the printwheel, put on a new ribbon, and replaced the correction tape. Could it be an impression problem? I don't have an operating manual and have no idea to correct. HELP! ~

Re: Printing issues

There are a few things that can cause this. Try code Q if this helps you may have a gummy print soleniod, if it dosen't the cap on the solinoid plunger may be cracked or the platen might not be fully seated ib the frames.

Hope this is helpful

Hello. I have an IBM Wheelwriter 1500 by Lexmark and lately it seems that when it is used a little more than usual (3-4 times in a day) some punctuations are very faint. The period, comma, colon and...

The reason it does this is the print solenoid is gummed up. The print solenoid is located within the carrier. It would need to be removed and cleaned with alcohol to free it up.

The bottom row of keys there is a key with four symbols ? / colon and semicolon. We cannot get the ? or / to print.

You are probably in KBII or a language mode. Go to brotherinternational.con\m, click on support, poke around there you will find a manual.

Typewriter won't print period or comma

The impact solenoid has a rubber cap on it that is worn out. This cap needs replaced and the impact mechanism adjusted.

Not printing 9

Does it print something in place of the 9 or does it do nothing at all? If it prints 2 vertical lines the printwheel is bad, if nothing at all happens at the least you need the keyboard contacts cleaned.

Print Unit/Daisy Wheel

Most likely the problem is the print hammer. Our service techs see this all the time. Not a cheap repair.

Not printing dash- and period.

First be sure the blue damper is on properly. The thinner side with the notch cut in it should be to the back of the machine with the notch down in the lower part of the left side of the yoke.
If that is right be sure the ribbon is fully latched down, then try a little light oil on the print solenoid they do grt gummy.
