Samsung SyncMaster 710N Monitor SLEEP MODE

By kingj225 on Oct 17, 2009

I have the Samsung SyncMaster 710N Monitor. After turning on it displays for a few second then seems to go to sleep? The screen dims to black, and if I turn it off for a while and then back on it repeats the exact same scenario.
Is there a way to stop the monitor from going to Sleep? I have gone into the menu options and set to 200sec... thinking that would help but no joy.... (FYI. This monitor is attached to my MacBook as an external Display) Moving the mouse or using the keyboard does not wake the 710N, the MacBook display is always active so its not the CPU sleeping, just the external 710 Monitor. Again, ALL works fine at first power on then 710 goes to sleep..?

- Thanks for this, it was a good idea. I opened it up and checked / tested all Caps and there were no problems to be replaced. I turned over the PCB to look for any HotSpots and also checked for any loose connections or anything unusual. All checked out OK. Your suggestion is one I will remember for future troubleshooting. As mentioned in the initial thread, the monitor will power up and perform for a short while, but when there is a pause in activity it Dimms out to sleep. Not awakening to any Keyboard or mouse commands. After powered down for a few seconds it will then replicate this behavior one powered up again. This is what makes me think it is a monitor sleep mode issue. Got any other suggestions?

Hello,

The monitor is not going to sleep the power supply board is shutting down. If you can solder you should be able to repair the monitor yourself. The problem is caused by blown capacitors on the power board. Go to our web site at : www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm We have pictures of what to look for. Open your monitor and look at the power supply board for any blown capacitors, replace all that you find. The replacement parts can be ordered from several places on the internet or we can supply them for you. The replacement parts will need to be high temp and will be marked 105c. The values you need to get will be marked on the sides of the ones you take out but will be something like 220uf, 470uf, or 1000uf etc. and then a voltage rating. When you install the new ones be sure to insert them with the polarity stripe going the same direction as the old ones come out. If you don't want to do the repair yourself we do offer a repair service for $35 plus return shipping. If you have any questions just let us know

I hope this helps if so please rate our solution.

hello
I am a technician-informatic. I have repaired about 80 Lcd Samsung monitors with theese problems. I offer the repair manual.
Manual has been done with the experience of the repairing Samsung Lcd monitors. Manual was made by me and shows how to open monitor, how to solve dark screen problem, how to check and replace capacitors, how to solve the problem non-optimal mode (without reprogramming MCU or changing the main board) photo are included. 100% functional. The repair process is very simple 30-40min. (does not need a lot of experience in electronics and expensive instruments) and is not expensive. With this manual you can solve problems by yourself and save money.

"Not Optimum Mode 1280x1024 60Hz"
- The monitor turns on but turns off by itself, the LED blinks green.
- If you detach from the PC points to "control cable" the picture runs continuously in the vertical direction or presents while line , and as soon as it is reconnected, the monitor goes off.
- The monitor does not turns on and dont dispaly anything, the LED blinks green-lit, if you detach from pc points to "control cable".
- The monitor turns on, works well some time, but after a window apiers "Not optimum mode. Mode recommended 1280X1024 60Hz"
- The monitor turns on, works well only with low resolution 800x600, when try to change a window that reads "Not optimum mode. Mode recommended 1280X1024 60Hz"

the manual you can find on ebay (my ebay name is asnerejas123):
