One DOESN'T need a service manual to replace a hard drive!
You just need to open the case where the drive is. Usually a few screws that are obvious on a cover on the bottom of the units for most laptops. Some have only a couple screws then a carrier slides out.
There is usually a carrier that may require a couple more screws to remove and then up to four screws holding the drive to the carrier.
There often is an adapter plugged onto the drive which you have to transfer to the new drive in some cases.
Just go slow an keep the screws in little divided tray to make sure you put the right length back for each location.
