Go to settings> Sounds and Vibration >Ringtone. Under Ringtone, scroll down the list to the bottom where you will see "Add from phone". Click on this + Add from phone and it will take you to your download ringtones. Hope this will help. I am using a Samsung Edge phone and hopefully it's the same procedures. Some apps will allow you to change the ringtones within the app, so you don't have to go to the phone settings to do anything.
Ringtones for the whole phone are set in the Settings app in Sounds-->Ringtones. You can set individual ringtones for any of your contacts in the Contacts app by editing an individual entry. The ringtone (and textone) fields will appear when you touch the "edit" button in Contacts.
Open iTunes and click on the 'ringtones'tab. Make sure the Download all selection is chosen, or check the box next to all the ringtones. Click sync, and the ringtones should sync to your phone.
First make sure they are M4r files and not standard mp3.
Secondly you can put them anywhere. You just have to go in to iTunes, go to the Ringtones tab on your iPhone and then add the folder to be synced.
