One day i took it out of my pocket and it worked fine then later that day i took it out of my pocket and it said Turn the power off and on again and the lens opened then i turned it off and the lens stayed...

Look at my post for a very similar problem. I tried all the steps, pushed and pulled on the telescopic lens thing. Got to the step of hitting it against my palm while turned off, and when I powered it up it worked again.

I went to the beach and I put my camera in my pocket, and sand got into my lenses of the camera.

Hi there Dash,

What happens was that there could be a grit of sand that got stuck between your lens' barrel and the camera's base, preventing the lens to retract freely. So here is what you do. With your camera turned OFF, hold the camera on your right hand with the lens facing the ground. Then hit the camera's base on your left palm as you push the button to turn on the camera. You might have to do this a few times. If the above solution does not work, you might need to blow a canned air around the sides of the lens of your camera. The idea here is to remove that grit out of the camera.

Please let me know how this goes. Thank you for using FixYa.

My Ricoh R7, the shutter is jammed and wont close or open, its stuck half way. I live near Glasgow. Know where I can get a repair done?

If you are sure that your battery if fully charged but still does not do any good, then do this little trick:

1. Hold the camera on your right hand with the lens facing the ground.

2. As you press the power on button, tap or hit the camera's base to your left palm. Do this several times.

Chances are, there could be a sand or granule of dust that got stuck on the sides of the lens, preventing it to retract properly.

Hope this helps.

You are basically right. Its basically as easy to replace as it costs to repair, unfortunately those are your options. You could inquire as to an estimate to make your decision easier, or locate an independent repair shop as they may be cheaper. The camera would need to be taken apart and I only recommend that if you know what your doing.

Here's what I did...Mine had the lens stuck out and would not power on. Just a green blinking for a second or two. Well, I tried twisting the lens ring closest to the camera while hitting the power button. It's kinda tricky to do...BUT, just keep at it. Mine was a $1 resale shop "find" and now it works. This worked for me. Maybe it will help you!

Recently my digital camera dropped on the ground while the lens was out readyto take a photo.

you will either have to send it to pentax for repair or a local camera repair company.

I don't know any repair places in new Zealand. so you will have to ask around local camera shops or look online for a place.

Lens stuck halfway open

Fully charge the battery or connect the camera to the power supply (if you have an ac adaptor).
If it still does not work, it means that the lens is broken.
Reason can be that the camera was in your pocket pr carrying bag and the camera inadvertantly open and the lens mechanism was damaged. In this case, it needs repair.

Camera will take pictures but they are all black.

Your CCD is damaged, OR your aperture is stuck closed in your lens. Turn on the camera, have the lens extended and look into it, do you see a small circle at the bottom that looks like an opening? If not your aperture is stuck and you need a new lens. If its open, your CCD is bad and needs to be replaced.
