Unfortunately, for the sony vgn-n130g notebook, sony started design from merely a machine screw. they then built the entire computer around the screw. unfortunately, this screw's access is necessary to remove the entire top plate assembly to gain access to the HDD. Why doesn't Sony just mke an access plate like anyone else?

All machines are slightly different for accessing the components, but if you flip over the laptop look for some screws on the bottom that hold an access plate. the hard drive is about three by four inches.

Swapped out hdd cf-52 nothing happening

When you swapped out the Hard Disk Drive
of the Panasonic Toughbook CF52 it is very
importatnt that you did not "hot" swap the HDD
but that you turned off the unit with a full shutdown
and unplugged it as well.

Once you removed the Hard Disk Drive (HDD)
I am assuming that you replaced the drive with
another drive that had a proper operating system
already installed. If not, then of course nothing
happened since you replaced the HDD with a blank
or unformatted HDD.

One way to verify if the replacement Hard Drive
is recognized by the Toughbook is to go into
the BIOS by pressing the F2 function key and
checking the size or capacity of the replacement
Hard Disk Drive. If it shows the proper value,
then the HDD is recognized at the Hardware Level.

If it shows HDD as None or Zero then the replacement
HDD is NOT recognized and you have to try a different
drive which is functional.

Good Luck!

Dropped notebook, get only black screen, error loading operating system.

The notebook needs to be opened to see if the hard disk drive (HDD) has simply become detached from it's slot and slotting it back in fixes the problem. Alternatively, if the HDD has suffered shock damage from when it was dropped, a replacement HDD might resolve the problem but the Operating System, drivers and programs will have to be installed on the new HDD.

Medion akoya e1210 notebook. failure to boot pxe

Failure to boot PXE 061 is a BIOS message that indicates 2 things:
  1. System failed to boot to the hard drive
  2. System failed to boot to a network connection
The apparent problem is failure to boot to the hard disk. If the system was running yesterday and there have been no hardware changes to the system, then most likely failures are:
  1. HDD failure (Replace the HDD, reinstall OS and applications) I hope you have information backed up.
  2. HDD not being detected by the motherboard due to connection issue (Remove HDD and reseat it, then see if seen in BIOS) If no change replace hard drive, if new drive not seen, replace motherboard

Hdd primary pasword is lost cannot open hard disk drive showing error codes 06231 and so on cannot boot the computer cause the disk drive is asking for primary hdd pasword and is no taking the password...

Most modern laptop HDD or BIOS passwords are not resettable and don't come with default passwords to unlock them if the password is forgotten.

You will need to contact Acer and find out what kind of warranty coverage your machine has. It's likely that you will have to pay for the services they provide or pay for a new hard drive yourself and re-install Windows.

Error message: Failed- Replace Hard Disk 1 (Warrany ID error code 10008) what does this mean I have a compaq Presario A900

It means that Hard Disk 1, which is either the first or second harddisk in the laptop, has failed. First open the BIOS on your latop. Before windows startup there should be a Compaq logo on screen. There also is some text saying which key to press to access BIOS. In BIOS, try opening some menus and look for a menu that shows your disk drive. In the same menu should be your harddisk. If it is there, go to A. If not, go to B. A: The disk is not broken, it just made a write error that destroyed WIndows. Insert the disk with your operating system on it into the laptop, and reinstall it. Your data is gone, but the laptop will work. If reinstalling the OS gives errors, and is unable to complete, go to B. B: Your harddisk is broken. There is no way to fix it, and you will need a new one. Contact Compaq if your warranty is still valid, and if not, take it to the nearest computer shop and ask for a new harddisk. If you have any more questions or trouble just post back here. I hope this helps, Yannick

External Toshiba 400GB HDD not recognized on my Dell CPx J650GT

New hard drives need to be formatted! So go into the control panel switch to classic view, ( if you are still using category view for the control panel ) open administrative tools, then open computer management. Next open disk management. In disk management your new drive will show as raw, you will be give the option of formatting the drive, select primary partition and format in NTFS.
This will then format the drive, when this has finished your new drive will appear in my computer.
