I think my compaq presario desktop has crashed

The only message I can get to come up on my screen now is "no operating system found". It will not boot my Windows cd from the cd rom so that I can reformat my computer or anything. Is there anything I can do to retreive my information from my computer or am I out of luck?

Re: I think my compaq presario desktop has crashed

I have seen this problem caused by a nearly dead CMOS battery. They are cheap, so replace it if in doubt.

Re: I think my compaq presario desktop has crashed

The computer is not recognizing the contents of your hard drive. you'll need a floppy with, and on it. when inserted into the drive cmos looks here first. if you can access the cmos, check the search parameters to see what the computer boot up sequence is. you may want to change it to recognize the cdrom first, then the hard drive, then the A drive. I had a compaq armada that gave me the same message but I was able to reformat the drive off DOS 6.2 and changed the boot up sequence.

Compaq screen comes on, then goes to black screen with "disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter" I don't have a sytem disk, where can I get one?

This would depend on which OS you are trying to install. Also, if the system booted before and you are receiving this message you probably have a bad hard drive or corrupted system files. There are free operating systems out there such as Unix and Linux, or you can go through Microsoft and get the OEM disc for your preferred operating system. If you do not want to puchase the OEM disc yourself then you can also go through a pc repair shop and have them do an OS reinstall. Hope this helps, let me know if I can assist you with anything else.

My pc will not boot saying "setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration. . .

I think you may have left the operating system cd in the cd drive - this message appears when your pc boots the cd before it installs the operating system. So check your cd drive and remove any disks

The computer comes on and will not go past the compaq screen where you have the options to go into the boot menu

odds are that the operating system has crashed and become corrupted if you have the disc that came with the computer go ahead and reinstall the operating system but note IT WILL ERASE ALL OF YOUR FILES ON THE HARD DRIVE.

Win 95 crashed and non operating system found when rebooting how can i fix

Hi, Sorry to tell you, but you will need to reinstall the operating system. its as easy as placing a 95 CD into the drive and let it run following all instructions, but of course if you are no the techie type its best to let some who knows exactly what they are doing look at it for you. If you don't have a windows 95 boot disk try this website for diskette or type of boot disk.

I need to know how to instal the operating system on my Compaq presario 5000. It says no operating system found, & i don't remember how to instal one. can someone please help me out?

what operating system are you trying to install.
If windows. You need the disk. Then when you switch on the computer you hold f12 or f8.(should display on the bottom of sreen)this will take you into the bios. you need to change boot order to boot from disk. Then you have to format hard drive etc. this can be quite tricky to explain. From this point i think your best option at the minute is to type what operating system you are installing into youtube. theres tons of people showing you how to install operating systems

Restore compaq presario sr1403wm to factory setting

I am sorry to say but there is no suggestion we can give on this topic. The problem with your computer is that the operating system you were using has crashed. You need to install a fresh copy of operating system on your PC.

Computer will not start

When Windows crashes with blue screen, it writes a system event 1001 or 1003 and a minidump to the folder \windows\minidump. Check system event 1001 and 1003 and it has the content of the blue screen

Event ID: 1001
Source: Save Dump
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.The bugcheck was : 0xc000000a (0xe1270188, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x804032100).
Microsoft Windows..... A dump was saved in: .......

Event Source: System Error
Event Category: (102)
Event ID: 1003
Error code 1000007f, parameter1 0000000d, parameter2 00000000, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 00000000

Control Panel -> Adminstrative Tools -> Event Viewer -> System -> Event 1001/1003. Copy the content and paste it back here

How can i get rid of the compaq logo even after i format my hard drive .

The screen that I think you're referring to is the OEM BIOS splash screen.

This particular logo / image has nothing to do with your hard drive... it is embedded on a physical chip (EEPROM or ROMBIOS) on your motherboard.

It is possible to make modifications to this particular splash screen (through a hardware hack), but I don't recommend doing it. The screen shouldn't be a problem; it sounds like you might be experiencing a "Boot Order" issue.

I'm assuming you might be having problems with the Boot Order if you're having issues with loading your OS from CD. When you have the Windows CD in the CD ROM and you reboot the system, you should see the following message flash up on the screen (immediately following your OEM BIOS Splash screen):

"Press any Key to Boot from CD..."

If you don't see this message and your CD ROM Doesn't spin up and begin to load might have a Bad CD ROM, bad CD "Disc" might not have your BIOS Boot Order set up correctly.

To get into the BIOS Setup on a Compaq Presario system, do the following:

When the OEM Logo Splash screen appears, press F1 to enter the BIOS Setup.
Note: On certain Compaq Presario PCs (prior to 2002) press the F10 key at the logo screen to enter setup.

To change the Boot order:

Here's the URL for Compaq's Online FAQ for Changing the Boot Order:

Try changing the Boot Device Priority in the BIOS Setup: Make sure that the "CD ROM" entry is moved "Before" the entry for the Hard Drive and Network PXE:

Example Boot Order:
  1. CD ROM or Removable Media
  2. USB
  3. Floppy (if you have one)
  4. Hard Drive
  5. PXE (Network Boot)
This should help you load the OS successfully from CD (if you're not being presented with the "Press any Key to Boot from CD..." notification when rebooting with the Windows CD in the CD/ROM drive.

Please repost if this fixed your problem and rate my response!

Good Luck,
