My lg TV of three and half years has a black screen with images flashin Intermittently. The sound is fine

What is the model number? If it is only 3 years old, I suspect you have a LCD TV with LED backlight. You quite possibly have a failed LED backlight.

Many LG TVs of this age are starting to fail due to over-worked LEDs in the backlight which create the white light that illuminates the LCD image.

The symptom is TV turns on and off ok, gets sound on the connected video inputs, but has an otherwise black screen with no video on display. You can try to operate the TV near a bright window with lots of sunlight and see if you can perceive a faint image on the screen. A flashlight is often not bright enough to be helpful.

Most of the time, an LED will fail as a short circuit and still allow power to flow through it to other LEDs that will still light up. If one of these LEDs fails as an "open circuit", or if several LEDs have failed in the same circuit, then the power supply detects a fault and shuts the TV down. If the LED is intermittent, you may have flickering. Think of having one light bulb burn out in a string of Christmas lights and having all the lights go out until the bad bulb is replaced... kind of the same thing.

Your TV circuits boards should be fine. In my opinion your TV requires a backlight repair which requires complete disassembly of the entire TV including disassembly of the panel which is a difficult process.

Blank screen on LCD TV

either the backlight power board or the power board itself isn't powering up the backlight power board

or your backlights are burnt... this is where testing comes in

Black screen but i do have sound

HelloCheck the backlight inverter board. If it has damged, most common fault to LCD TVs, there will be no backlight to the LCD screen, and will look black. Your tV has sound output without picture. This means that all other boards ar functioning well. Check the backlight inverter section and CCFL tubes used in backlight assembly. OK.

The picture on my tv is completely dark, but the sound is working fine. how can i fix the picture? because it's a fairly new tv

Keep a close look to the screen, and see whether there is any trace of picture on it. If it is there, you can see pale shadow of it moving. If it is there, be sure that the backlight is not there. Thhere is an inverter board to energise the CCFL lamps used as backlight component. If the inverter board got faulty, the CCFL lamps won't light up, and no brightness will be there with LCD TVs. Check it. OK.

I have a 52" westinghouse

Ok you have a lot of things going on here. Your first thing with the lines can be your T-con board or your Signal board or the screen itself. The second thing black screen you would have to be more specific? Is your back light on and you have no image? If that's teh case then I would replace the T-con board or the Signal board. If by black screen you mean there is no light on the screen from the backlight inverter then your BAcklight inverter or the backlight itleft might be bad. and ontop of that you might have the problem that we started with also. You can get westinghouse parts from You have to order by part numbers so you have to get the number from the actual part of your TV.

My samsung LE40R74BD set works fine for about 10 mins then screen goes blank (black) . It would appear there is no back lighting. I have visually checked the psu for blown capacitors but all seem to be...

This does not seem to be a power supply issue but rather an issue with the backlight inverter board. When the screen goes black, take a flash light and focus it on the screen from a close distance and several angles. See if you notice a very faint image. Try changing the channels to make it more noticeable. Try it and let me know

Ok i have a 19hd flat screen the screen is black i can hear it fine but cant see any thing but a glimps of picture

Backlight inverter needs replacing...It's easy really, just unplug the tv for a few hours before you open it...take out the old backlight inverter and plug in the new one...the inverter will be located on the left or right side of the tv looking down on it.

The caps have completely flat tops. You need to check the voltages next (the 12~18vdc for the backlights).
It can also be bad lamp assemblies but you will need lamp tester to check that. Post more results.
Bad caps can lok normal but can have high ESR.
