The lens cover on my olympus stylus 770sw is stuck open and the camera will not turn on.

1. Sand or foreign object in the lens cover.2. bad motor or gears.
Try cleaning with canned air while powering the camera up/down...

Your battery may need to be replaced or recharged.

Maybe a gear tooth broken in reduction mechanism.

Contact Olympus for the factory reset code.

Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $86.85 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.

You have to take it to a repair shop and have it fixed.

It may be the battery - try using one of your spare batteries, see if that makes a difference.

After only 15 days mine did the same thing. I called the dealer Olympus and they gave me a RAN number and told me where to send it. I got a call about a week later. They said because the camera had moisture inside I was not coverd. The best they would do is mail me a rebate card for 25 dollars off my next purchase. I was like WTF. The woman said sorry but that was all they could do. When I asked to speak to manager she hung up.

i had this problem after putting it in a jug of bear (i know, i know...not so smart)...i washed the camera with a small amount of dishwashing detergent and a good rinse and it seemed to solve the problem for me....not sure if this is the recommended way of dealing with it though.
