Question about Nintendo DS Console

DS Lite lower screen has lines

Hi, I recently replaced the case, and followed the instructions carefully, but when I started it, the lower screen now has fine lines horizontally across it.

I checked and recheked the connections to the board from the screen, but I can never get it to look better.

So, did I somehow fry or damage a chip on the circuit board, or did I mess up the screen?

If I need to take a pic of it, I can tomorrow. Thanks!

Oh, to add, the system works just fine, but the lines make it hard to read somethings, and play some games.

The Touch part of the screen works well too.

well, it didn't look like this before I replaced the case. (damn hinge problems!!)

So what can I do to get it back normal?

Same problem here. I opened the case to fix a problem and when I closed it, the bottom screen was messed up. It was constantly flickering a little and certain text wouldn't show well (touch and everything else works fine still). When I ran an older game, the colors seemed to be off (like when switching from thousands of colors to 256) except when it took a second to load (going back to previous menu for instance). When it would pause for a second, the color was fine. Could this be a refresh rate issue, and, if so, is there anyway to fix it? I would appreciate any help that you can give me, as I don't have the money to get it repaired. =(  Thank you in advance.

Is there no way to test refresh rates before I buy a screen that may not even fix this problem?

  • JarvisW Jul 06, 2008

Anyway I can reset the refresh rate, before I shell out the money for a new one?

    Thanks for any help!

A new screen should fix the problem. Unless you have damaged the connector on the circuit board.

Lower screen of Nintendo DS Lite unusable due to colored lines

The lower Screen usually takes all the force from the stylus, which eventually damages the actual screen itself.
Your best option, is to obtain a new lower screen. easier to replace than tthe top-screen.

How to replace case on nintendo ds lite

Hi the easy way is to type: "nintendo ds lite replacement case tutorial" into youtube there are many videos giving good step by step instructions showing how to replace the casing. You will also need a triwing screwdriver for 4 screws in the lower part of the DS lite (these can be bought on ebay for a couple of euro)

Ds lite out of line (1cm out of where you touch on the screen)

Go to the main menu, then touch the mini DS in the bottom center of the screen. Touch the yellow icon farthest to the right. Follow the instructions from there on out. This is called calibrating your touch screen.

Hope it helps~

The AR should come pre-loaded with codes for most games. If you followed the directions carefully and there are no codes for your game I suggest following the AR update instructions in the booklet to reset and download the most up to date codelists for your games.

The Ds lite powers up for a brief moment then crashes

well try to find DS parts in EBAY...

and don´t try to power the DS with a broken display ´cause it can short-circuit another part of your DS...and make things go Bad...

Turns on and lights up but no images on top screen

The DS top screen has two components, which are the LCD display, and the backlight. If the LCD display has gone bad but the backlight still works and the connecter is seated properly, the DS will still power on and the lower screen will be normal, and the top screen will light, but it won’t display anything.

You didn’t mention if your DS is the original DS or the DS Lite. Replacement top screens for the DS Lite are cheap on eBay, but installing the screen is a bit complex. The screen for the original DS is a different part and they are more expensive and hard to find.

I’ve never worked on an original DS, so I can only tell you about installing the top screen on a DS Lite.

First, the DS Lite has to be just about completely disassembled. You have to completely remove the top and bottom cases, pull out the microphone and wi-fi cables, and release the connecter for the top screen, which is located on the main board in the lower case. You’ll need the tri-wing screwdriver. You can leave the bottom screen/touch screen assembly attached to the main board, but be careful not to pull or tear the flex cables. Check YouTube for videos on disassembling the DS Lite.

Here’s the deal breaker for most people: The speakers are soldered to the flex cable of the top screen. I’ve never seen a replacement sold with speakers. You’ll have to unsolder your speaker wires from the old screen cable and reconnect them to the new one. If you can’t solder, you could take the screens to a local tv/electronics repair shop and pay to have it done. I got this information for you from this appears to be a common problem I hope this helps

Nintendo DS Lite Housing Shell Replacement- I need instructions! Please help!

I found instructions at the following website:

It is written for the Shock clear case, but it works for all of them. It isn't for the faint of heart! Just take your time, and do each step with a lot of care (and patience!) I thought I fried my NDSL when it turned on and immediately off, but it turned out the lcd ribbon wasn't properly seated when reattaching. Let me know if you have any trouble..
