We have the same problem. Camera turns off if sd card is in. When I turn camera on and then put in sd card, it stays on but only records to the pathetically small internal memory. So far this camera is a piece of crap.

Make shure the SD card isn't damaged, also make shure your SD card is SD not SD-HC.

Took out memory card to transfer photos. returned card to camera and it indicated memory card error shut down leaving lens out.

Never remove or insert a memory card while the camera is turned on. Try removing the battery, waiting about 30 minutes, and then putting in a freshly charged battery.

The camera beeps when we put the card in.

The images you take with your PDC 640 camera are stored on a removable 3.3V SSFDC or SmartMedia 2 MB memory card (also available in 4 MB and 8 MB). Note: You must insert the memory card before you can turn on the camera.

If camera beeps is enabled, the camera beeps if the card is not installed and displays the [ ] message on the Status panel.

To insert the memory card:
1. Make sure the lens cover is closed (the power is off).
2. Open the memory compartment on the side of the camera.
3. Insert the memory card into the slot (gold side of the card facing the front of the camera).
Make sure the card is pushed firmly into the slot. Note: The camera prompts you to format the memory card if it is not formatted. The camera displays the format menu on the LCD viewfinder. Press the button next to Format.
4. Close the memory compartment cover.

If you can, try using a different memory card. Else, your memory card contact terminals inside the camera may have become worn, causing the camera to not recognize the card once it is inserted.

I put my memory card in my camera and it has a message that says no memory card. What do I do

Hi,

I suggest you to turn off your camera and then turn it on. Or you can also re-insert the memory card.

Thank You.

Internal Memory is full

Your camera should automatically recognise when a memory card is inserted and store pictures on to that rather than use the internal memory. The internal memory is only used when no card is inserted so possibly there is a fault with the card connections if it does not recognise when it is inserted.
To clear the internal memory have a look at my post on my tips page on my profile dealing with this.

Sd card cannot be read & internal memory of camera cannot be read

Which Kodak camera model?
It may not support a large SD (SDHC) memory card.
Remove the card and remove the batteries.
Turn ON the camera (I know, no batteries) for one minute.
Turn OFF camera and install batteries.
Do not insert the memory card.
Does the internal memory work?
If so, insert memory card.

If it's ok to format the card, do so.
If not, then use a USB adapter and copy the memory card to your [My Pictures] folder.
Format memory card.

New camera will not turn on when memory card is inserted

What type of camera are you using?
Is the memory card brand new? the memory card is probably  corupt, try formatting it on a computer and trying again.
How big capacity is the card?
The camera may not be able to handle the card if it is a HC (high capacity) card, but it depends on the camera.
Will the camera work with other cards?

Camera wont work when memory card is inserted

I suggest you try to use a different memory card. If it doesn't happen again then it's probably a bad memory card.

Why does my camera freeze up when I insert or remove a memory card?

The camera detected an error when the card was inserted or removed. Turn the camera off, then back on. Make sure the camera is turned off before inserting or removing a memory card.
