First select your windows system.

The sm bus controller could be a card reader or a chipset driver.

use the windows 7 'chipset' drivers make sure you choose the right one 32 or 64-bit. You can find out by right clicking on 'computer' then selecting properties, it will be in the middle of the window.
SM bus controller is for the USB.

Try to get driver from dell website, do google search or maybe someone might hae original Installation disk

You can download the device drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on the bottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Tag label is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where the specific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you select the Windows of the drivers for your Windows operating system. There is no built in webcam on this model.

ah!! had the same problem with this one...goto dells site and download the D620 driver

Go to dell's website, but in your model number and ownload the driver for your operating system that says "chipset", this driver pack will have the sm bus controller drivers in it. I looked in the drivers for XP and the second one down actually states it is for the sm bus controller.

try those drivers and let me know if they dont work

go to dell.com website at the bottom select "drivers and downloads" then select either your service (located on bottom of laptop) or your model number. Then select either XP or vista and the main drivers you need are you chipset, network, graphics, and sound.
