Question about Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) Console

File Transfer Problems

When I go to transfer music files to my psp I keep having problems. When I copy and paste certain files my psp seems to disconnect from my pc. My psp still is on the USB screen but it just says please wait and I can't access files on it until I retry the USB connection. I have tried formating the Mem stick and even using a different one. I tried rebooting the psp and resetting the default settings. I havn't had this problem since I updated to 3.80.

Re: File Transfer Problems

Try using a different method to transfer files. This is how I do it:

Connect the PSP to the computer then access it's folders by going into "My Computer". Once that window has been brought up, open the folder with all your music or whatever you want. Now, with both windows next to each other, drag and drop the files you want on your PSP.

If the same problem keeps occurring, it may be your computer that's the problem if your PSP is still trying to connect once it's been disconnected. Have you tried removing your PSP safely? There should be a little icon on the right bottom of your computer screen that says "Safely Remove Hardware". Use that to remove your PSP from now on if you haven't already.

I hope this works for ya! ^-^

You sure the games that you've downloaded are working properly & suitable for your PSP & your version?
Make sure that you have a folder called ISO in the root of your PSP. Drag & drop game files in there!

Can i upload some music in my psp from my pc? is that free?

Yes, you can.
Yes, it's free.

You can upload MP3 files with no problem.
You can upload unprotected WMA files with no problem, but you have to first connect your PSP to wifi and accept the windows media player agreement.
You cannot play protected WMA files on the PSP. Here's how to transfer music. You will need a memory sick duo for the PSP for storage and a USB cable to connect the PSP to your PC.

1. Connect your PSP to your PC via the USB cable.
2. On your PSP's menu, go all the way left into the Settings menu.
3. Scroll up to the USB Connection menu and click X
4. Your PC should recognize your PSP. You can then access your PSP's installed memory stick just as you would any other drive. Let's say, for example, your PSP is now drive G:\ on your Computer. On your PC, click into drive G:
5. Click into the PSP Folder. If this folder does not exist, you can create it by clicking File --> New --> Folder
6. Click into the MUSIC Folder. If this folder does not exist, you can create it by clicking File --> New --> Folder

==> Here you can drap and drop [or copy and paste] all of your MP3 or WMA files and they should appear on the PSP's music menu.

I can't download no music and pictures from my computer to my psp!

In order to play music in the PSP, the songs have to be in mp3 format other formats do not work with the PSP.If you do not have songs in mp3 format, you can download mp3 songs from Once you have downloaded the songs save them in your computer and plug in your PSP.Then drag or copy and paste the songs to the PSP memory stick in the music file.
For pictures, choose the pictures that you want to transfer to your PSP and drag them to the memory stick in the picture file

Cant download music

try NOT going through media player as it tries to convert any audio. keep your files as mp3. preferably stored in "My music" file on your computer. then when you connect your psp via USB go to "open folder to view files" then open psp/music file. leave it open and open a "My computer" window my documents/my music, then just click and drag to psp/music file.

Yes there is a way. What you will need is a PC, Some form of Memory stick Duo card Reader, And a PSP Compatible Memory stick Duo/Pro Duo.

If you havent already used the memory stick inside the PSP it will not have the correct Formatted file System for use in the PSP. but you can create the file system using your computer.

heres how to do it ! :

1) plug your Memory stick Duo/Pro Duo into the card reader on your computer.
2) open my computer, locate the Memory stick usually found under the "devices with removable storage" area.
3) once inside the memory stick, create 2 seperate folders. One called "PSP" and the other one called "MP_ROOT".
4) Navigate into the "PSP" Folder and create 3 Folders, "MUSIC", "PICTURE" & "VIDEO"
5) Copy & Paste the Necessary files into each Subsequent Sub-Folder within the "PSP" Folder.

Note : The PSP Can only handle Certain File types for Pictures, Music, And Video. i would suggest Navigating to before you transfer your files to ensure that you are adding files which are Viewable/Readable by The PSP's software.

Hope this helps !?

if its music files, you just download onto the PC.
then transfer them to the music folder on the PSP.
connect your PSP to the computer via USB.
should usually be recognised as a mass storage device. Drive F/ Or G/ possibly.
open the device and locate the folder music.
copy the music from your computer, and paste into the music folder on the PSP. no ripping device required simply copy and paste. you can also do this via a ms-pro duo memory stick and reader.
Hope this helps you out.
