Re: security

If you do not have wireless security enabled then anyone within the range of the radio transmitter will be able to use your internet access.

A G band router has about a maximum range of 300 feet which is greatly reduced by walls, wiring and other items in your home.

If your using a wireless laptop you can do a site survey by walking around outside your home to get an idea of the range your router has.

I bought a Linksys wireless G-WRT54G Router. When I purchases it I was told this was all I needed and how easy it was to set up. I have no idea what I am doing but I can not get it to work. I have a...

Other than the laptop and the LinkSys WRT54G, you would need an active account/subscription with an Internet Service Provider (ISP) who then will provide you with a modem of sort.

On initial setup, connect your modem to your laptop and verify that you can connect to the Internet. Thereafter run the CD installer that came with the LinkSys before connecting/powering the LinkSys. Follow on screen instruction. At one point in the installation, you would be asked to disconnect the modem, connect the router and connect the modem to the router.

Should for some reason the above instruction will not address your concern, pls post back.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back as requested, how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

How to remember my wep

yes, there is a way. just follow the steps below.

- open a web browser and enter on the address bar. it'll prompt you for a username and password, just leave the username blank and the default password is "admin"
- it'll prompt you with a linksys screen, go to the "wireless" tab near the "setup" tab. then look for "wireless security" subtab just under the "wireless" tab. it'll give you now your wep keys. copy key 1 and enter it on your xbox live

hope this'll help you and just ask me if you'll have other concern
