Re: overscan

For Factory Menu, press MENU 1 3 7 0
Service Adjustment Mode, press MENU 2 3 5 7
Convergence Mode, press MENU 2 3 5 9
Use the VIDEO or VIDEO buttons to enter two different groups of adjustments
Use the VIDEO / VIDEO buttons to toggle thru the adjustments
Use the + and - keys to adjust
When finished with adjustments, press ENTER to save
Press MENU twice to exit service mode
Hope this helps. You should look for the vertical height or size adjustment. Do not adjust anything you don't know about.

Yes, if you have the original remote and get into the adjustment menu which is hidden you can adjust width, height, and centering if you want.

Can you adjust pincushion, overscan on Sony kdf46E3000?

Steve, I am not an expert on this model but I can provide a link to the manual that may be helpful. It is a PDF format and the pages that refer to your issue are 32-36. I hope this assists you in resolving your issue. Thanks for using Fix Ya.

Unable to see all the writing on screen. some of it is missing on right and left sides. I can change screen size but it does not bring full text into view. Philips 32" flat screen. Instructions...

Well I'll take a stab at this.
1) how many size selections do you have?
Many of the new flat panels have.
a) Normal
b) stretched
c) 3x4
d) 16x9
e) overscan
The issue you describe is that you are watching a 3x4 source/picture and your TV size is either in the 'Over scanned' position or the other possibility is that your TV has a Zoom function and it's zoomed in too far. Just a thought!
Blessings always,

Overscan is a staple in all CRT triple gun RPTV tech. It has to be taken in, if you want to see all of the picture possible in this medium. On ceiling mount front projection they have equipped them with all they need, they didn't need to do overscan, but with RPTVs this was not possible at the given price points. Overscan was necessary, to hide all the flaws out there at the edges, and they could not afford to pay their factory calibration techs to do it right, at the price points of the RPTV marketplace.

Unfortunately, when you take in that overscan, the picture gets hosed beyond belief, and then needs to be completely redone. It takes several hours and has quite a learning curve, a different one for each brand.

It is always available in my calibrations on all brands, but as an extra, at extra fees, to cover the extra time and experience/expertise required.

Top of picture cut off

Sounds like a problem on the deflection/power board....You can try replacing the vertical I/C and caps.......Or go for a new board.

Overscan Problem

Switch to that input, and run the Auto Convergence for that input (Setup menu on the TV, Convergence). Convergence settings save for that particular input.

Auto Convergence failed becuase PS52800 failed to detect one of my Sensors?

The overscan would certainly cause auto convergence failures since the beam the CRT's shoot out are on the corners and upper center and lower center. Being too dark can also cause issues since one of the CRT beams might not be bright enough for the sensors to register. I would first have someone adjust the vertical size if the top and bottom of the frame are somewhat cutoff.
