Dell usually supplies all the cd disks your computer was set up to use. the Win xp restore disk will reformat your hard drive with the original partition. I have a dell 4600C desktop and all my original stuff is on the burgundy win xp disk. the auxillary stuff is on the blue cd-s.

This site give info on it. However it is not for the novice user:

The only other way would be to copy the hard drive from another dell over yours (which would wipe all the data on your drive.)

As an alternative, make sure you get your tech to make a copy of the XP install CD and a copy of all the drivers for the machine which will at least give you some recovery options.

I've been reloading XP from Dell XP CDs onto D610 laptops and they do not make the recovery partition.

If you copy someon'es hard drive from the *same series* Dell it should work fine. I've used Acronis True Image to do this many times.

How do I restore deleted partition on SSD drive?

You might be able to restore the ssd with software available to purchase but don't hold your breath! Unlike a standard hdd there is no physical record.
Deleted means deleted.

What can I do to rescue data deleted by pressing "Shift+ Delete" on Windows 7?

Using Shift+Delete to remove files/folders bypasses the recycle bin which is your normal means of recovering accidentally deleted files. You can go to download.com and search for file recovery programs. Some are available that will search your hard drive and can maybe recover what you lost. It is important to do so as quickly as possible because once files are permanently deleted on the hard drive, the sectors that they occupied are no longer protected and can be overwritten by any program or file.

Factory reset

jeremy,
To restore your system to factory conditions you can start the computer and tap the F8 key. Once you have the advanced options on the screen choose the one that reads "Repair Your Computer" and follow the prompts to restore the system.
CAUTION:
This utility formats the operating system hard drive partition prior to restoring the factory image. This means data on that partition is deleted and cannot be recovered.
If the customer creates a second partition with a third-party utility, Dell Factory Image Restore is not affected as long as the image partition is not removed.

How to restore sandisk from Factory Image Recovery on Dell Inspiron 1545

Hey Pam,

The factory image on the 1545 is accessed by starting the computer and press the F8 key. Choose the option that reads Repair Your Computer and follow the prompts. If this does not work you will need to manually reinstall Windows. Below is a link that will provide information on manually installing Windows.

How do i restore my pc to factory condition without the disc, when i try and use the disk, there is a disk read error. I've already tried F11 and ctrl F11 at the boot menu.

Turn on the computer.

When the Dell splash screen appears during the computer startup process, press and hold <Ctrl> and then press <F11>. Then, release both keys at the same time.

In the Dell PC Restore by Symantec window, click Restore. Alternatively, press <Tab> to highlight Restore, and then press <Enter>.

Can you please give me step by step insturctions on how to totally wipe my hardrive on my dell latitude 600? Then I will refoat it back to its orignal settings. thank You

Unless you're donating the drive, there's no need to do anything before re-installing the OS. When Windows asks where you want to install the OS to, you'll see an option for formatting the drive first.
If you are donating it and are worried about someone recovering the data (after formatting and re-installing, it's not something the average tech can do) I'd recommend booting the laptop off CD/USB drive with this image (http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/) and running one of the Hard Disk Wiping utilities. Mind you, some of the very thorough ones (military-grade) can take DAYS.

Had the same problem. Luckily I'm a Computer Technician so I had the experience to know that you can use a Bootdisk (Such as Dell DSRFix or Partition Magic Partition Table Editor) to temporarily change the partition from 00 to 80 on the Hidden Recovery Partition. This requires you to put the 00 where the current 80 is on the normal 'C Drive' partition. You will most likley need to change the 00 & 80 back to the way it was, after you are finished re-loading the factory copy of windows. Note: If you opt to utilize the Dell DSRFix Tool, you only want to use the Partition Table Editor (not the DSRFix, as this is an E-Machine).

Restoring WIndow Vista

No, windows backup will only restore your data, for example My documents, Desktop, User settings, and Outlook data.
To restore the system you will need a windows install disk, or if your computer has a restore partition(like many dell, packard bell etc.), you can use the restore windows utility from partition.
