Question about Panasonic PT-51G42 51" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Panasonic pt-51g42v i have a problem with the vertical on this tv it appears image is too big for the screen. i have read that the tech menu has some adjustments for this but how do i access the tech menu. i have called repair shop they said it would cost $250-$350 i can buy a new tv for less than $900 so i don't think i'll take it in. if i can't fix this myself i guess i'll trash this one. i want to try the adjustment or if i can find the pc board for the vertical i can replace it i have a service manual but doesn't really tell what each board controls. thanks for any help with this problem. and have a happy new year!

Re: panasonic pt-51g42v

You might have bad solder joints on the vertical output IC. I do not know where it is located in this set only that it will be mounted on a metal heat sink near three wires that have identical plugs which go to the deflection yokes on each crt tube. Sets vary as to placement of vertical IC. Solder joints should be easily seen if you have good eyes or use a magnifying glass. I do know that the vertical IC will be on the board that has the highvoltage transformer on it (has big red wire). You may have to unplug the board and turn it to the soldered side or just turn the entire chassis up 90 degrees to see the connections. If this is not the problem I don't know how to get into the service mode at this time.Hope this helps

Vertical lines dont align and green tint

First do a convergence on your set go to menu select picture then scroll down to convergence then press select again. Next follow the on screen instructions for static convergence. If this doesnt solve the problem check all the capacitors in the convergence section of your TV. If problems persist replace both convergence chips. Please have tech do this for you.

I have a panasonic PT-47wxc43 projection tv. I have green and purple halos coming up from the bottom. The screen has purple and green double images which are worse from the bottom up.

This problem is due to convergence output ICs failure and both chips will be replaced to fix the issue.
There are two big black ICs installed with aluminum heat sink on deflection board, these are convergence output ICs and will be replaced to correct the problem, it is common problem of rear projection tv.
Below image of deflection shows ICs (marked in red) that are need to be replaced.
IC number is STK392-110 and available with Part Store for $32 each.
Click above link to see an image of IC.
If you are handy with electronics stuff repair and can replace parts in tv circuit board then can replace these parts yourself or ask local tech to help you.

I have a PT-47WX53 rear projection TV that has a 3-4 inch vertical bar that is in a purplish hue. Barely visible. Asking for suggestions of repair. Thanks.

There is one very common problem for this--the band of noise appears after the set is on for a few minutes but you have no picture?

Picture Stretch on Panasonic PT-53WX54

Usually this is an indication of a failing capacitor in the vertical circuit. Have those been checked? I would look for 100ufd caps in the vertical circuit. Check with the tech.

Try pressing the "Aspect/Prog -" button on the remote - it should be just underneath the number 9 key - try pressing once, see if it fits better, try pressing again to see if it improves until you get a better match
